While yesterday had been one of those very rare, lovely days, of course the following day would go back to the usual misery that came with living in the city of Eidolon. And with living there in the city her whole life, Lily just went on her daily business, although she did decide to make a detour to the flower shop on her way home. Winter was still gripping them all, which was frustrating, so she felt that some color was called for.

Despite the fact that it was still winter, despite the fact that it was still cold, Lily was enjoying the weather none the less. She sat on the steps of the Alexandrian Library sipping a hot chocolate that she'd picked up from the cafe down the block, the rest of her lunch sitting beside her, half eaten and somewhat forgotten as she sat there.

Roy had just got done with running numbers, and had stopped on the way back to the vault at the library. He wanted to get a typewriter for his sister, but had absolutely no idea whatsoever what one might cost, where he could get a used one, or even if he should or...basically he was clueless. The only people he could think of that might be able to help him, were at the library.

"...hello?" he called, leaning a little over the desk to see if he could see behind it, wincing faintly as his voice echoed. He'd not even been trying to be loud, but the place had acoustics like you wouldn't believe.

Lily had found Jenny having one of her 'days' when she went to the apartment that morning with a suitcase of clothes to drop off. She was firmly ensconced under the covers but didn't want Lily to call for her mother, so Lily left quietly, contemplating what she should do. She had the remainder of the week and the weekend off from the library and didn't particularly want to go back in so she was left walking aimlessly down the sidewalk kind of window gazing.

In exchange for the remainder of the week to herself, Lily came in to pick up Jessica's shift that day. It was, as usual, slow and pretty empty, and Lily was, as usual, reorganizing the books on the shelves. This time in the adult fiction section. "People are so inconsiderate," she muttered to herself, stepping up on the little stool she had and re-organizing the top shelf.

Even with the frustration of careless patrons, Lily was happy and she looked it. She stood straighter, she smiled more, and it was as if a great weight was off her shoulders. Jessica had noticed it, had looked quite surprised and asked if she was feeling alright and Lily was happy to say that she was.

The radio was cheerfully playing Louis Armstrong in the background while Jenny and Lily were leaning against opposite sides of the kitchen counter, digging into a rather nice sized chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream icing and chocolate roses. Happy Birthday Jenny had been written in bright pink calligraphy but was half eaten now as they casually devoured it.

Lily didn't want to go back to work after her conversation with Brett, her discovery in the archives down at the Echo. She felt rather sick about it actually, so she detoured to the park instead. It was a nice day anyway and Lily could've sworn she saw the sun peaking through the clouds, they were so bright.

Morning had come all too soon for Brett - or possibly not soon enough, he couldn't decide. He'd had the same unsettling dreams last night as he'd had in the few snatched moment when he'd dozed the night before, only more so since last night he'd actually gone to bed with the intention of getting some sleep. Three nights in a row without sleep wasn't something that he could do. Not if he wanted to stay sharp, and right now, he needed to be sharp.

Lily needed to get out of the house despite the damp of the morning. She felt confined, suffocated inside the walls and while it was worse outside, at least there was more air to breathe, no walls feeling like they were closing in on her. She didn't have to go in to work for another hour or two, but she thought she'd go in early with some doughnuts or something.

Jessica would ask how the ball went and Lily would suffer through it. And Jenny. She really needed to see Jenny soon.

Jesse showed up what he considered on time to meet Lily. Since she'd changed the time and everything, he figured she'd be there. And really, even if he was a little wary, he wasn't going to make her stand there all by herself. It wasn't like he wanted nothing to do with her or anything. So, he did, in fact, show. Only she hadn't, yet, and it was past the time she'd told him. That made him wonder if she'd turned the tables on him, set him up to feel like an idiot or rejected or something.

Maya had been up since dawn. there was just so much to do. Things to organise, last minute preparations. She had to ensure that this ball went off like clockwork, even if the venue and preparations there had been finalised yesterday, there was everything else.

Finn had slept late today. His small flat was a mess of clothing and sheet music. The old piano that he'd scavenged from one of the town's old clubs that had gone over took up the majority of his "living room." Finn's bedroom was a little loft above the living room, that really only had enough room for a makeshift bed. The kitchen was clearly owned by someone who didn't cook. It seemed to be a amalgam of different knick-knacks and things that took up all the counter space.

Just wanted to make sure I was still taking Jessie to the theater tomorrow night. If she needs a dress still, let me know. It's not a problem. I'm at the library until 3, then at the middle school until five. Still feel free to come with us. If the idea of a suit totally turns you off, we can sneak you in through the back.

If I don't hear from you, I'll assume everything is on. I'll be around to pick Jessie up at 7pm.

Agatha had been under the weather for the past two days, much to the bane and relief of Lily. While she was not having to attend any important dinners or anything, she still had the account books to go over, especially after the generous donations made in the Pennington family's name for the theater and art museum. There were some... odd notes made about certain funds but Lily had learned long ago not to ask too many questions. It was like something out of a mystery novel.

Lily wasn't supposed to be working that day, having called off so she could go shopping but Jessica said something about not feeling well and the library was so slow anyway. Considering the director was absent as well, Lily had all sorts of ideas on how Jessica wasn't 'feeling' well. Which left Lily re-organizing the entire young adult section because no one seemed to care to put the titles in order.

It was still not very nice outside. Ki had wandered to the park with her brightly colored umbrella, following the instructions of the strange note she'd woken up to. It had been tacked to the inside of her door, and no one seemed to know what it was all about. After much debate, she'd been allowed to go, though under strict orders not to do anything or say anything that could be traced back to her 'employer'.

Really, Ki thought they were expecting her not to come back, so she'd taken a little insurance with her. It was tucked into the pocket of her coat as she walked, spinning her umbrella to make the rain fly off in a spiral pattern. She looked up at the creepy statue of the founder of the city...the guy no one could remember the name of. Now all she had to do was find an X. Because according to her note, X marked the spot.
