Charlie was still out of luck on the job front. He'd been trying for a few days, but so far no one had seemed to want someone sent to the pen on their payroll, especially for what he was pinched for. He had been busy grumbling to himself about the stupid cycle that perpetuated, but he'd gotten tired of it. So he'd gone to the park, to just sit and try and figure things out. He had a paper with him, and he was looking through the help wanted section. Dodge had given him some money, but it really hadn't been much. Which was probably good, and yet at the same time left a bitter taste in his mouth. To say Charlie had mixed feelings on everything would have been understating it entirely.

Sleet pounded against the windows of the Round and Mac gave it a baleful glare - early afternoon was never a busy time of day for the bar but if the weather stayed the way it was it was going to keep all but the most hardened drinkers at home. Glancing round the room, he briefly stopped on the one customer currently sat nursing a beer at the end of the bar and shook his head, turning his attention to a stack of washed glasses from the night before that needed polishing and putting back on the shelves.

It was spring and the first real, warm day of the new year. It had been about five months since she ran and Maddy was in Fontaine Park with a few scraps of chalk drawing a pretty mosaic, a little cup for change nearby.

Brett was out. But then, he spent quite a lot of his time out. She was fairly sure it wasn't all business, either, that a good chunk of that time was spent simply avoiding her. She knew she got to him, even if sometimes she got to him without actually intending to. Of course, there were times she was deliberately attempting to get a rise out of him, but that was hardly the point. Her problem was that she hated being alone. And even if they didn't necessarily get along all the time, that didn't mean that she didn't want him around.

Eris was in the dark. She'd been keeping to that since she'd woken up a while back and found herself without the 'doctor' that had been 'caring' for her. She didn't know how long it had been, the days kind of blurred together a lot of the time. It felt like a long time. It felt like forever. A waiting game always felt like forever, though. It was only a matter of time, she knew. They'd be back for her. Whoever had disappeared the doc? They'd be back.

When: A night some months ago
The sound of the rain vied with the purr of the car engine to block out the wider sounds of the city as Brett turned down the alleyway and pulled to a halt. The headlights cut through the darkness, lighting up the drops of rain as they fell, and the dumpster against the alley wall. He left the engine running as he opened the car door, stepping out into the downpour - if it could be called that. He wasn't convinced - but it was too heavy to be a shower, not heavy enough for a storm. This god forsaken city had too many different types of rain. Whatever it was, it was wet and it wasn't going to stand in the way of him doing what he was here for.
