The throbbing in the side of Brett's head had subsided slowly over the course of the day, but the bruising remained. He wasn't a pretty sight, one eye swollen almost shut, surrounded by a vivid display of multi-coloured skin. There really was no avoiding the fact that he'd been hit, and by something hard. Unsurprising, really, since his business partner, his lover, had pistol whipped him last night in the midst of another one of their set-tos.

The first thing that JJ did when she got home was feed Leo and clean his litter box. After that, she carefully changed out of the dress and sweater that had once belonged to Lily and into her pajamas, folded them and placed them safely away. Grabbing the blanket off her bed, she made her way to the couch and toppled onto it, pulling said blanket up and over her head so that she was just one big mass under it. She did this fairly often, especially when she'd had a not-so-good day.

After lunch with Janey, Danny had headed back to the station to find another set of paperwork on his desk. He was halfway through the stack when Johnson came through the door dragging the little spitfire behind him. Danny couldn't help but look up from Ki's file, which he'd taken a break paperwork to read through again, as if something else might jump out at him about it. Some clue that someone had missed.

Johnson spotted Danny with ease, he was the only one at a desk at this time of day and obviously had no way to get out of it with his arm in a sling. Tugging the little girl behind him by the sleeve he drug her straight towards Danny, depositing her on the chair next to Danny's desk with an exasperated sigh.

"What's this?" Danny asked, obviously not amused.

Ever since my conversation with Zhen, I’ve had so much of it on my mind, and I feel like it all erupted today. So here I am, at the cathedral for the second time this afternoon. I can’t seem to get a grip on myself. I can’t even focus on my prayers, my thoughts are just too tangled.

The cab ride to Angelo's apartment was calm and silent. Shoshannah found herself staring out of the window, watching the people on the streets turn into blurs on the streets. Seeing all the different opportunities for snapshots stirred a melancholy feeling in her. Her hands felt empty without her camera there, but it wasn't like they hadn't tried. She and Angelo had gone searching for the camera yesterday and hadn't found it.

He'd spent the morning checking in at the station then going by the florist to pick up flowers for Cheyenne. Now armed with another bouquet for his wife, Danny decided that he could have lunch at home today. It wasn't a normal occurrence, usually settling for diner food or a sandwich from somewhere, but today seemed like a good day for it.

Jessie could feel herself stomping off down the street. She knew she must look really stupid, walking so quickly and with such a harshness to her step, but she didn't care. Her mind was cluttered now with thoughts of DG and how rude she was. Who said that kind of stuff? And then acted like she was doing JJ some sort of big favor by it? It was unbelievable. She was unbelievable.

Who: Shoshannah and Janey
When: Lunchtime

All day, Shoshannah had been feeling just a little off. She couldn't quite place it. Aside from her camera being stolen, nothing really major had happened that would upset her. She'd been to her first movie with Cheyenne and Elle a couple days back which had been nothing short of fantastic. Hopefully she'd get to see them again, this time for something that she'd be able to treat them to. Then after the movie, Angelo and she had gone out in search of her camera but to no avail.

This not-paying-attention in class thing was becoming a habit for Jessie. One she didn't like, but still a habit. Although today, she had much more of a reason for it. Dressed in a dress that Lily had given her, along with the red sweater Lily had given her, JJ had floated through the school day. She hadn't paid attention once all day and thankfully, her teachers had left her alone because they wouldn't get anything close to a real answer out of her today.

He'd woken in a state of disarray, half undressed and tangled in a mess of sheets. Maddy hadn't been much better off, just as half dressed, but snuggled comfortably against him. Just feeling her there next to him was almost enough for him to linger in bed, ignoring the voice in his head that demanded he keep to his schedule.

The little 'neighborhood' under the bridge was kind of daunting. It was the people with nowhere to go. The people who felt they had no choice but to live in whatever nook they could find in the middle of winter by the water. Maddy thought it was kind of ridiculous. If you tried hard enough, you could find a place. She had. Roy had. But it wasn't something she was going to bring up to Pepper, who, of course, hated taking charity from anyone. She got that, she totally did. Still.

Danny was really annoyed. He'd not had time to go to the florist yesterday nor had he been in the right mood for it after his conversation with Zhen. He hated this sort of thing, but he needed to get it done because it just might help. Not that it mattered because Maya had fired him, but he was still worried about Cheyenne and worrying about her went easier when she would speak to him. Then at least he could check in on her on occasion. Going into the little shop he just sort of loitered until someone finally asked him what he needed.

Things were different now. Before when the morning light first hit the windows and she crawled into the bed, it was just mommy. Always just mommy. Daddy left before the light and he'd come home after it left again, smelling of soot and sweat.

The smell was gone now. Now he smelled of soap and lingering smells of mommy. Crawling up onto the foot of the bed she watched them, not moving closer just yet. It was so different than before. Before mommy would pull her close, hot tears against her skin when mommy thought she was asleep.
