Who: Danny and Eris
Where: the hospital
When: late

The calls started late, and thank god for once they didn’t stop until they found Danny. It was late, he was just walking into his house as the phone started and when he picked it up, getting news no one wanted to hear. While he and Brett weren’t close, they were partners of a sort and the last thing any cop wanted to hear was that another cop was shot. Danny dropped in the bedroom to tell Janey what was going on before he left again, headed to the hospital. They didn’t fight him as he made his way through, all he had to do was flash his badge.

He hated this place, both from when he’d been shot and the many days he was here with his wife during her miscarriages. While in both cases everyone made it out in one piece, he still hated it. Still, he knew it well enough to not need directions once he found out the room number.

Eris was on her way out, after having seen Brett. She had a plan in mind, where she was headed first, what she could get done at this time of night, and what would need to wait until morning. She was busy going over that as she exited the intensive care unit, Brett's car keys in her hand. She'd promised she'd move the stupid thing. So she'd quietly grabbed them before leaving.

Danny hadn’t expected to see anyone coming out of Trent’s room, least of all a woman. She looked familiar, though it took a moment for him to place her as who she was. That got a curious look out of him, stepping to one side to block her path. “Hello,” he started, not sure how else to greet the strange woman who was here to visit his partner, a woman who wasn’t the type to consort with the police.

Pulling up short due to someone stepping in her path, Eris looked up, expecting some hospital staff demanding to see proof that she was Brett's wife. What she saw was not hospital staff. She glanced around, very quickly, though he was looking directly at her. "Hello." she said. "If you'll excuse me..." she started, not stepping around him. People got out of her way not the other way around.

Danny wasn’t most people. “What are you doing here?” he asked instead of moving, looking at her sternly. He didn’t do soft or concerned and even before he’d run into her his expression hadn’t been much different from what it was now.

Arching a brow at the stern look he was giving her, Eris didn't exactly look cowed. "And that's your business because...?" she asked, still not getting why some random stranger would be stopping her right now. She almost asked him if he was with administration, because things had been cleared up, but she wasn't the type to give away information when she didn't have to. Why hand people an in? Especially when it wasn't like she could prove she was married when she absolutely wasn't.

“Because that’s my partner’s room you just walked out of and he’s been shot. I get to ask questions.” He looked at her, waiting on an explanation, especially now that he was remember who she was properly. Damn woman just never completely stopped popping up did she?

Eris looked unamused, and also undeterred. "And where were you, exactly when he got shot? Why is it you're just getting here now, then?" she posed to him. "And just because you're his partner doesn't actually make it your business, that would be his business, now wouldn't it. So no. You don’t get to ask questions."

“We were off duty, I don’t live with him. Actually Brett and I go our separate ways at the end of the day. And I just found out. Took a while for them to track me down.” Because he had been at a bar, but that was besides the point. “Someone just shot him, just give me some ground here and tell me why you’re here.”

"Look, it's not your business. I could be here to dance naked on the countertops, or swing from the rafters above his bed, and it still wouldn’t be your business. You don't get to just grill me because you feel like it. Yes, someone shot him, it wasn't me. He'll be fine, by the way. Great job asking that first. Stellar concern there." she said and patted his shoulder. "Also? You smell like a brewery. Now why don't you run along, and be belligerent and out of line to someone else? I have things to do." Eris told him, giving him a 'you can move now' Look. Her tone was a little too sugary sweet.

“Why would I ask you about how he is instead of a doctor or nurse? And why would I assumed that you’d be concerned with his well being in the first place?” Danny asked instead, still not moving. It wasn’t terribly important, but he was here and backing down seemed like giving in. Plus he really was curious as to why this was so interested in Brett in the first place.

“Because you’re already grilling me on unimportant bullshit while ignoring what would normally be the most pressing question. You could have slipped it in there, but clearly my presence is far more significant in the grand scheme.” She gave him a flatly disapproving look. “You may want to step aside before I start considering a nice harassment complaint.”

Danny watched her for a moment then eventually he stepped back, not giving her space really, but giving her enough to step around him. “Fine then. I’m going to go check on my partner. Thanks for dropping in.”

Eris still didn't step around him. Instead, she stood there, giving him an unwavering iron look. "You like pulling moves like that to intimidate little things like me?" she asked him. Because that was what that was. She'd seen it a million times before. Some ass, putting himself in the way, to force someone else to comply with their will. She just refused to do it. And if they had to stand there in the hall all night, she'd do that. But she was also going to call bullshit when she saw it.

There was a moment where he held her gaze. “Hardly,” he said. “More just not willing to back down just because you have a sharp tongue and think everyone does what you want.” He gave her another look and stepped around her headed towards Brett’s room. She wasn’t worth the time anyway.

Eris rolled her eyes, but didn't comment back. She knew the truth. He didn't know her. Probably of her, but not who she actually was. Which made her think when she got back, she was going to have to ask if Mr. Partner there happened to grill Brett about her presence...and what he might have said to that.
