anya in the rain

WHO:Anya and dutch, then Anya and open.
WHEN:mid-Morning
WHERE: The park.

Anya sat on the park bench, a smile etched on her face. She was happy, genuinely and unconditionally happy. She was on her own for the very first time and life was good. She could start looking for an apartment soon, and she had a steady job, doing something she could be proud of. Anya had woken up that morning with an itch to get outside, she didn't even care that it was raining. She Just grabbed her jacket and walked outside,no real purpose, just the need to get out into the world. She sat there amused, not really waiting for anything, but still anticipating something unknown.

Dutch was soaked, but he didn't mind much. He'd flipped the collar of a ratty peacoat to cover his neck, tugging his hat down tight as he walked with a coffee in one hand, the other holding a folded newspaper overhead to ward off some of the downpour.

He'd had breakfast across town that morning, needing the initial walk in the rain to shake off whatever unknown chill his dreams had brought. The diner he'd headed for was pricier than Nighthawk's, but it was also on a route that he'd seen Cheyenne on a few times in the past when she'd been out shopping. And sure, the weather wasn't likely to draw her out, but it was a reason to walk.

So he'd eaten in relative silence, abusing his bottomless cup of coffee and idly filling out a racing form for no reason other than the distraction. And when he was finally done? Well, the walk remained; he was needed at the shop. So there he was, slogging through the rain and slowing as he spotted Anya. "Y'know miss," he grumbled in greeting as he approached, " 'Round here folks who smile at the rain? Get fitted for coats from Bedlam."

Anya looked up at the man,

Anya looked up at the man, still grinning. "Well, any other day I would have to agree with you, but I was so happy that the smile just wouldn't stay off of my face this morning." She replied, moving over on the park bench to make room for the stranger. She looked him over quickly, to her he looked pretty laid back, and casual.

"Oh, my name is Anya by the way." she said, extending her arm towards him.

.

"Dutch," he said in kind, shifting the newspaper over his head and tucking it under his arm, then shaking excess water from his hand before shaking Anya's firmly. It only took a glance at the wet bench for Dutch to decide against it; however happy Anya was and for whatever reasons? It didn't suddenly mean he'd want to sit out here and catch a chill with her.

"So I'm gonna wager you're new in town," Dutch eventually mused, smiling a touch in spite of himself. Cynic or no, there was something contagious about the completely unrestricted smile Anya was wearing.

.

"Nope, been here my whole life. I know it's odd to see someone in this city be happy in the rain, but I just can't help it." She said, jumping up from the wet park bench and looking around. The rain was starting to slow a little, which was a good thing, because Anya was probably going to get sick after sitting in the rain for so long.

"So, what brings you to the park today?" she asked Dutch cheerfully.

.

"Headin' to work," Dutch informed her, pausing to sip his coffee and grimace at the cold temperature, "Occam Auto, 'round the other side of the thoroughfare. Had to grab some breakfast, and at my age it pays to stretch your joints instead of drive." Of course, the downpour and general chill in the air made his joints ache, but he didn't regret the decision. Maybe if he was more the sort who cared about getting wet or sick. He lingered a moment, but when Anya jumped up, Dutch felt okay in starting off again. If she wanted to walk with him, fine, and if not he wouldn't mind either.

"Ah." Anya said, nodding

"Ah." Anya said, nodding casually in understanding. She would probably never set foot in a car again if she could help it. She never felt safe in them, she liked to walk, and to feel the ground under her feet. She had no real plans for the day, she just sort of planned on walking around and thinking about how to jump-start her life today. When she saw Dutch start to walk, she paused and deliberated for a moment.

" I hope you don't think this is weird or anything but do you mind if I walk with you? I just like talking to people, and I really don't have anything else to do at the moment." she asked, hoping she didn't sound weird or creepy to Dutch.
