It's a perfect day for a parade
This was her least favorite thing about being an older sister. Of course her mother would send her out into the mess of things, dragging the twins along beside her, dealing with the sharp tugs on her arms every time one of them saw something interesting. By the time they made it to where residents were lining up for the parade route her shoulders were throbbing with a dull ache.
She wasn't sure about the point of this whole thing, but when do teenagers concern themselves with the ways of the world? Especially when celebrations over someone she'd never met or would never meet meant she had to play babysitter in a big crowd. The twin on the left tugged hard, trying to duck under the rope set up to keep people out of the parade route to get to something going by that he wanted. She groaned in pain, trying to jerk him back to safety. She sighed, not watching the parade, but her feet instead. She didn't jerk her eyes up until she felt the weight on one arm disappear. Panic stricken she turned, only to find the boy in the arms of a young man, the cute boy from school.
Excited about the attention her brother dropped her hand and clutched the old boy, tugging at his hair and pointing to things in the parade. Her classmate nodded gravely as if everything the child was saying at important and she couldn't help but smile. The other twin had swung around her other side and was now tugging on the young man's pants, wanting an equal dose of attention. After acknowledging the other child, he finally looked up at her with a smile. She felt her cheeks grow hot and looked away quickly, but she still shifted a little closer to him.
