Lunch with my two favorite people...Jack and Daniels.

Elliot

WHO: Elliot any Maya
WHEN: Lunch time/early afternoon
WHERE: The Drake Hotel

Elliot sat down at the bar and ordered a Shot of Jack Daniels. He was pissed,no he was beyond pissed. He was supposed to meet a client down here to talk about a case, but being one of the lowlifes that Elliot sometimes sees, the bastard didn't show up. Now Elliot had nothing to do for the Afternoon. That was a whole four hours out of his life he would never get back, but since he was already here, he decided to make the best of it and have lunch down here...or maybe just a few drinks.
He looked around the bar and noticed that it was fairly busy, this sort of surprised him, but he shrugged it off because that was not what he was here to do. He Downed his shot, ordered a beer, and looked gloomily into the drink when it came to him.

Maya had met some old girlfriends at the hotel for lunch. It had been pleasant enough - idle chitchat about nothings, as far as they were concerned, but Maya had garnered a few bits of gossip that she thought may have relevance to something and filed them away behind the smile. Cassie, a woman she'd known since they were teens, had had to run off to some afternoon engagement or other, so lunch had been broken up earlier than they would normally have ended things, and Maya wasn't ready to go home yet.

Rather than going home, therefore, she gathered up her bag and coat and headed into the bar, nodding to the hotel lackey that held the door open for her and gracing him with a smile, before heading for the bar proper and ordering a glass of red. She looked casually at the man she'd ended up next to. "Good afternoon," she said, politely, as she waited for her drink.

he was staring into the bottom of his drink, when he heard a female voice. It took him a quick second to realize that the the woman was addressing him. "Hello" he said looking over to put a face with the voice. The woman was very pretty, she was a little skinny but over all very pretty. He wanted to say something more but he wasn't quite sure she would actually like that, so he settled for a casual nod and a smile, and turned back to his own glass.

She paused for a second,

She paused for a second, before holding out her hand, pointed very slightly downwards, as if suggesting that he had an option of either shaking it, or kissing it, but that shaking would be the preferred option. "Maya - Maya Walker, pleased to meet you," she told him, her voice smooth and pleasant, full of the confidence of someone completely sure of her place in life.

.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Maya, I'm Elliot-Elliot Meyers." He said smiling and shaking her hand. His smile was full of charm, the kind that you are born with, not the kind you learn, and his voice oozed comfort; as if she was the only one he wanted to talk to. To be honest, he was surprised she was talking to him at all. "So, what brings you here Maya?" he asked companionably as he sipped his drink.

"Here? Oh, I was just

"Here? Oh, I was just having some lunch with a couple of girlfriends," Maya told him, settling back easily into the conversation, pleased with his response. She'd thought he seemed like the right type as she'd approached, and it was so nice to be proved right. "Nothing particularly important, or thrilling. Honestly, I was quite glad for it to be over, I don't often find conversations about the latest fashions as thrilling and life affirming as some do," she confessed.

He chuckled lightly at her

He chuckled lightly at her statement "No, I don't suppose that that latest fashions would exactly keep me occupied either, I have always been fond of baking myself." he joked, winking at her a little as he did so. He was actually happy to be talking to someone at the moment. He really didn't expect to do anything but drink a little and go home to his empty apartment, but it was a pleasant surprise to have company.

maya chuckled a little, a lightly, tinkling laugh that she'd worked hard over the years to master, one which stated that she was entertained and amused by what she was hearing, yet that she still maintained her poise and class whilst expressing her amusement. "Somehow, I couldn't imagine you in a pinny, Elliot," she said, laying a perfectly manicured hand on his arm for a moment, before withdrawing it once her comment was through.

.

Elliot smiled appreciatively at Maya after she had removed her hand from his shoulder. He could tell that she was very practiced at manipulation and a very skilled conversationalist. He was a lawyer after all, he could definitely tell when there was another manipulator in the room. He leaned in slightly and looked around as if he was confessing some deep dark secret.

"Shh, you'll blow my cover. If people think that I'm not straight, then they will treat me nicer. If they knew I was straight well... lets just say I may have to report to some serious fashion police." he said, winking conspiratorially before leaning back into his seat.

A smile played over Maya's

A smile played over Maya's lips. "Your secret is safe with me, dear," she told him, leaning in a little herself. "Though letting that little secret out - think of the scandal it could cause," she joked, her dark eyes dancing with silent laughter. She drew back before he did, picking up her glass from the bar and taking a sip of her wine, stem gripped lightly between thumb and finger.

"If I may be so bold, May I

"If I may be so bold, May I buy you a drink?" Elliot asked, gesturing to her wine. He liked Maya, he had a feeling that she was like himself in more ways than one. Besides, he didn't have any other plans, so sitting and enjoying the company of this interesting creature would definitely be a enjoyable way to pass the time. he hoped that she would accept, he never did like being turned down. It always made him feel like he was never going to be good enough, no matter how rich he became.

Maya had absolutely no

Maya had absolutely no intention of turning him down. He was pleasant company, and he appeared to have a brain - which was, she thought, a rarity at times. "That would be lovely, thank you," she agreed, though she hadn't quite finished her current. She wasn't the kind of woman who would gulp down anything simply for that reason though, so she sipped again and placed the wine glass down on the bar. She nodded towards the barman, though she didn't actually take her eyes off Elliot. "Rudolph knows what I'll have," she said, pleasantly, naming the barman with an air of familiarity, but in a tone such as one would address a servant.

.

"If you don't mind I'll have a scotch as well." Elliot said, his own tone matching Maya's almost perfectly. "So Maya, what do you do. I'm in the law business myself, A defense lawyer to be exact." Elliot said casually. He figured it never hurt to make connections, he may want to be a politician eventually and it was always good to know well educated people like Maya.

"Do?" Maya asked, as if this

"Do?" Maya asked, as if this were a novel idea. Frankly, she'd been a little surprised that her name wasn't familiar to him, but then again, not everyone kept up with the gossip columns, and it was a little refreshing to have someone really not know the 'Walker' name. "Mostly charity work, a little bit of this, some of that - I don't need to work, as such, so I prefer to fill my time with that which is needed, but that doesn't necessarily come with any great financial reward," she told him - of course, not mentioning the darker side of her family business, but then again she took great pains to make sure that nobody could connect her to that in the slightest.

.

"Ah that would be nice." Elliot said, thinking it really would be nice to be able to do charity work without having to actually earn your money, to be honest it was a pain in the ass. Of course, to be that rich, you were usually in some sort of high connection with the mob. Not that it mattered to Elliot, people were people, he didn't care if you were squeaky clean or the dirtiest lowest scumbag in the world, which clearly Maya wasn't. "I do some pro bono cases for kids once in a blue moon, sometimes they can't afford lawyers for petty stuff and they get sent to jail because the public attorney's are horrible at their job. So, I help with cases like that when I have the time." she said taking a sip of his drink. He liked to work for free sometimes, it made him feel like less of a scumbag, plus it was good for his reputation.

Maya smiled at that, as she

Maya smiled at that, as she lifted her wine to her lips and took a sip. "Really? Do you enjoy pro bono work?" she asked, sounding honestly interested, which she was. She liked to know who would be available to get involved in charity - people who helped people. She worked hard at maintaining a network, and she was always on the lookout for new people to bring into the fold: she just needed to ensure that they wanted to be there.

"If I am going to be honest,

"If I am going to be honest, I don't enjoy pouring over someone's case files for hours on end for nothing, trying to drag the truth out of a scared kid and then trying to convince the jury that this kid is innocent(whether he is or not). But in the end, when I see a kid's face light up, and I see their family embrace them, usually for the first time in months. It's worth it. So to answer your question, no I don't enjoy working Pro bono, but I would do it in a heartbeat if it meant I was doing some good." he said, a small smirk playing on the edge of his lips as he stared at his glass. He had actually revealed more about himself then he had intended, but it was out in the open now, so there was nothing he could do about it.

Maya raised an eyebrow at

Maya raised an eyebrow at that, weighing up what she could take from that. "If it was viable for you, financially, you'd do more? If it didn't take you away from earning your crust?" she asked, lightly. She had a few ideas - finances she could do. She could supplement, free him up to take on some of the needy cases, and she'd get a lawyer who knew she was a person who he could turn to. Who he was connected to - that opened up all sorts of avenues, if he was taking cases from her.

It was Elliot's turn to

It was Elliot's turn to raise an eyebrow, as he heard what Maya said. "Oh no, no, no, you misunderstand me a little. It's not the no money part that I mind, I have plenty of that to spare. It's the time, but, I am willing to take on more of them at the moment because there aren't a whole lot of the type of cases that I deal with right now." he said smiling. He could smell a business venture a mile away and he had a feeling Maya was up to something.

"So, what take up your time

"So, what take up your time usually, Mr Meyers?" Maya asked him, leaning forward and resting an elbow on the bar. "More work, or are you a man with a hobby?" She hoped he wasn't another boring golfer - though, thankfully, in the city there were fewer of them than she would imagine would normally be found somewhere less built up.

"Well Miss Walker, when i am

"Well Miss Walker, when i am not working or talking to lovely people like yourself, I am usually reading, or going to parties hosted by my clients. how about yourself?' he asked taking another sip of his drink. he usually was working and to be honest, he never had a whole lot of time for hobbies. He was always earning money, spending money or getting to know people.

Maya raised an eyebrow,

Maya raised an eyebrow, thinking that he hadn't actually answered the question she'd asked him - he had answered a slightly different question that, whilst technically correct, seemed to have totally bypassed her point. She had to wonder if he was side-stepping on purpose, or if he had simply misunderstood what she was driving at. "Well, as I'd said, mostly my own time is taken up by my charity work - it doesn't leave much time for anything else. Of course, a lot of that is making sure that I keep up with the right people, so it's hardly all work, work, work. Not of the type that most would define, anyhow," she told the man, deciding to drop the subject for now. If he was purposefully avoiding, then she didn't want to alienate him by pushing too hard.

.

Elliot was glad she hadn't pressed the subject too hard. His hobbies weren't exactly dinner conversation, let alone something that you tell someone you just met. "That is very kind of you, do you ever tire of it, or long to do something else." he replied, very curious to know how she did it all the time, without any thought for herself.

"Oh yes, sometimes I don't

"Oh yes, sometimes I don't think that I could face another interminable lunch with people who I need to court, but mostly - well, it's what i choose to do, and if I didn't get a certain amount of satisfaction from it, I wouldn't." That wasn't quite correct - she would do it anyway. Her family had a city-wide reputation to uphold, and she was part of that. Her job was being a Walker, a public face, a socialite and Somebody. She had a choice as to how she went about that, but she had decided at a young age that she would take her adoptive family name seriously and do all she could to support that.
