Volume one, in which Rabbit the Second acquires the Sword of Eidolon
The adventures of Rabbit the Second
as transcribed by one Alyson Walker
Sir Carl Rabbiton Hoppus Jr.,
better known as Rabbit the Second,
was a rabbit of humble roots.
A forest creature at first,
he was taught to expect the worst
of humans and their kind.
But where other rabbits were oft
content, Rabbit was anything but.
He longed for a grand adventure,
the kind read about in books.
He dreamed to meet kings, girls, and crooks.
-- and so rabbit set out.
When did he meet dear Alyson?
Hold your horses! Wait for that tale!
First I am required to share
the trying quest for the Sword of
Eidolon. Through bushes and rough
Sir Rabbit makes his way.
A tavern in the city is
where he overhears the legend.
A sword that makes the bearer the
strongest, baddest of them all.
His long ears twitch, standing tall
and Rabbit doth declare:
“I’ll find this Sword of Eidolon!”
The tavern goes silent. Who is
this nameless hero? Could he be
the destined one, the true bearer
of the Sword of Eidolon?
The tavern erupts in laughter.
Rabbit is outraged! Rightfully
so, I must say. The laughter chases
poor Sir Rabbit from the tavern.
Determination races
through Rabbit. He gathers maces.
Vicious! Rabbit is prepared.
(Now between you and me, I find
Sir Rabbit out of his mind.
The sword is hidden deep in the
chamber of the Queen, a cruel,
heartless woman -- she makes the rules.
Can Rabbit fight the Queen?)
I mentioned determination.
Well, Rabbit has all that and more.
He’s the type of rabbit to storm
the Queen’s castle door, and he
did that so all the world could see
Rabbit obtain the sword.
The guards, like the tavern patrons,
just throw their heads back, laughing loud.
They, too, chased the sad Rabbit out.
This, my friends, is when Rabbit
meets Lady Alyson. She, mid-fit,
noticed our brave hero.
Why was Alyson so upset?
Oddly enough, it was the Queen.
She ordered Lady Alyson out,
exiled. Why/ Jealousy!
She claimed the girl overzealous.
Preposterous, I know!
It was for this reason she was
thrilled to help the hero of our
tale. Rabbit and the lady go
to the armory to gain
proper defenses. Goal obtained!
Chain mail and weapons found.
Fully armored, they return to
the castle, this time with a plan.
Lady Alyson distracts the
guards, and Sir Rabbit sneaks in.
Rabbit journeys through the dungeon.
He spies the sword! It’s grand!
He takes it in his paws, examines
it ad turns it over. It calls
to him, it says his name, and he
knows despite the tavern patrons
and the castle guards, Eidolon’s
Sword belongs to him
and him alone.
