Winner Takes All
She did it.
Those three words, those three little words, suggest for a moment that I had doubt in her abilities. That is not the case. I knew she would. There is something about her. 'Faith' may not be the right words. I am not sure that there is actually a word in the English language - or Italian or French either. Maybe one day I will find there is an appropriate word in Russian.
I never had much Russian, previously. That is changing now. Now I am studying, and I will be fluent. It will help us get what we want, and nothing that helps us get what we want is too much effort. A language here, the removal of obstacles there. The plan is long term - somewhat unlike me, but together I know, I have 'faith', that it is certain.
Of course, that doesn't mean it will be straightforward, or that nothing else needs to be done. We put actions into play, but those actions must be followed up.
Such as the fact I was not in school today, nor would I be tomorrow, save that it is the weekend in any event. Such as the fact that as much as I want to find her, to congratulate her, that would be allowing opportunities to slip through my fingers.
There are more important places for me to be today. Such as home. Such as using the influence I gained in the job earlier on in the week to ensure that Iakov could say nothing about the fact that I have not left his side all day. Ensuring that I was in on all of the emergency meeting that were called, that people saw me by his side, that they became used to the idea of me being there in a way that would not have been so certain in the past. It is a small step, of course. One day will not win me a kingdom, but a series of days, a series of events. They add up.
This is my greatest challenge, and it is one I intend to win.
I always win.
