Character Profile
Name: Nathaniel Holden Konovich (formerly Lyons)
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Type: Aspect
Appearance:
At just over six foot, Nate is a tall guy and very physically fit. A natural athlete regardless, he's also a member of a gym in the city and a keen boxer. He's very proud of his physical appearance, though the other men in the ring occasionally tease him for a 'pretty boy' - something which many of them come to regret, as pretty he may be, but he's also got a killer left hook and he's broken a fair few noses in retaliation for those kind of remarks.
His hair is naturally blonde, his eyes a bright shade of blue. He has a love of nice clothes and the finer things in life, and looks very much like he's never had to do a day's work. That isn't exactly the case, but he's a man who appreciates the value of appearances, and appearing as a playboy layabout is part of the overall plan. He's also a man who looks good and knows he looks good.
He has two tattoos – one of a cross on his upper right chest and the other some script in Italian* on his right bicep. He got the cross last summer and the script he got whilst at school in Italy a couple of years ago.
The script translates as:
Cowards die many times before their deaths,
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Personality:
Nate is an ambitious guy, he always has been, but ever since his mother's remarriage, he's had a focus, and a point to prove. He's going to make it in the 'business' no matter what. It the one thing in his otherwise illusionary life that is actually real. And it also forms the bedrock of his 'real' relationship with other people - he's always on the lookout for what you can do for him. If he thinks that you're a useful person to know, he's going to want to know you. If he doesn't? Well, then that's another matter. It's enough to say that he chooses his friends with care.
Nate is very much an actor though and presents himself as a friendly, open kinda guy. He can be incredibly charming and makes friends easily. He's also not afraid to play the idiot, if it will help. In fact, often he will, allowing people to believe that he's far from as intelligent as he actually is. e keeps his actual thoughts and feelings about people pretty much to himself. Most of what people see from Nate is a carefully crafted and almost perfect act. he's nowhere near as nice as he presents himself to be. He does not give the damn he appears to about other people. He'll play the lovesick fool with girls (and the occasional guy, if it suits his purpose), but really so far in his life, not one of them has been more than a lay to him. He has yet to meet the person who will hold his interest.
Sexuality:
bisexual - sex is merely a tool to bring pleasure, or a tactic to bring power. Either way, one shouldn't limit oneself.
Constants:
Aspect of Romeo
Constants:-
Obsessive: It takes a lot to get Nate's honest attention, but once that's given, he latches on completely and he won't easily let go. It becomes an all consuming part of his life. Sometimes he taps into this, using the feelings he knows go with it to 'fake' an attachment, but the real deal is at another level altogether.
Dramatic: Nate is a consummate actor and approaches everything in life that way - as a play, a game. He rarely shows his real side to anyone. To each person he gets involved with, he gives the impression that they are the centre of his universe, yet he shrugs them off just as easily without thought when he moves on. As such, he seems to fall in and out of 'love' at the drop of a hat. He has a reputation of being a player and most people who know him doubt that he has the ability to commit when it comes to matters of the heart.
Unreasonable: Nate follows his own path, and he is not the person who is given to listening to the advice of others. He can be recklessly spontaneous at times and once his mind has been made up, it's almost impossible to steer him off course.
City History:
Nathaniel Holden Lyons was born to a dancer with big ideas but little save for her face and body to back that up. Though, for that backup, she did all right for herself - settling as a mistress for a series of middlingly wealthy men in the city, before she got herself pregnant by one of them. Daniel Woods refused to leave his wife, or even acknowledge the eventual boy as his own, but he did support her and her son in a very comfortable lifestyle. She continued on as a dancer, and life went on. Until, at least, Nate reached eight years old. That was the year everything changed. That was the year that Iakov Konovich came to Eidolon City.
Selma Lyons was always wanting to dance at the best place in town, and when the Kitten Club opened up - to her, that became the best place in town. And she was good. And, even with an eight year old kid in tow, she managed to attract the attention of Iakov. She was still a pretty young thing, barely twenty-five. And within a couple of months, she had a ring on her finger and the former sugar daddy? Well, he'd met with an unfortunate accident. No loose ends - that was always Iakov's motto.
Unfortunately, Selma's kid - that was a 'loose end' which wasn't so easily disposed of. You couldn't send a kid to the bottom of the river. Not if you wanted to actually keep the girl through anything but fear. But Iakov didn't expect much from the American brat. With no Russian blood, the boy had no potential. So, he sidestepped. Nathaniel was sent away. Boarding school. France first, until he was thirteen. Then Italy. He returned to the city for holidays only until last year when he returned permanently. The war in the rest of the world meant that it was unsafe being away, and anyway, Nate himself had been angling to return. No matter how much his step-father had written him off, Nate had other ideas. He was going to follow in his 'father's footsteps. He was determined to be a part of the Syndicate and he used the Syndicate's own rules against them: anyone could join. As long as they could prove themselves. Nate demanded a chance to prove himself. And like ever other Syndicate member, he insisted on starting at the bottom. Insisted before he could be told. And he was given the opportunity, though his step-father does not believe that he will make it, Nate knows differently.
Since everything started going south in the city, Nate has made a move to start stepping up in the Synidcate. He was instrumental in setting up the successful attack on the gallery, and he's making sure that he's noticed by the right people. At the same time, he's deftly manoeuvring events so that when the dust settles, it'll seem as though Iakov has become dangerously unstable. His eventual goal is that the Syndicate themselves will remove Iakov from power. Whereas once he may have wanted acceptance from his step-father, as events have changed, so have his goals. Now, he wants Iakov gone and, instead, he wants to eventually assume the man's position. He knows, however, he needs to be older for that and so, in the meantime, he - with the help of Arienne DiGiovanni - is working to place the dominoes so that the board is set for the eventual fall, some years down the line.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Good boxer and generally hand to hand fighter, he's learning how to shoot at the moment, but is still a way off being anything near a good shot. He also plays the piano - something which he was forced to earn at boarding school (he doesn't much let people know that though). He also speaks good French and fluent Italian.
Weaknesses:
Narcissistic sociopathic tendencies. When all is said and done, Nate is out for one person and one person alone - himself. For all he plays at 'love', he's never really felt it, and isn't at all sure that it actually exists. He's told people he loves them before, but mostly that is just because it served his purposes to do so. Nate cares about people for what they can do for him, not for themselves alone.
Nate can't turn down a bet. He's never been able to resist a challenge. It's what has him trying to prove something to his step-father. The challenge was that he was written off, so the challenge is to show the guy that Nate Konovich is worthy of the name given to him. Nate already knows he is, he just wants to rest of the world to appreciate the fact as well.
Lack of forethought. For all that Nate has ambition, he's not very good with planning for the long term. He's very focused in the short term, the bigger picture often escapes him, though if it's explained to him, he can follow the plan. Mostly. As long as no short term wants get in his way. The one exception to this is when someone truly crosses him, in which case he can be incredibly vindictive. It is unlikely to be straight away, but if Nate factors your downfall into his world view, then eventually, that is what will happen.
Warped - Nate has a thing for blood. His blood, anyone else's blood, it's all the same to him. So far, he's not had that many opportunities to really get involved, but the ideas behind it, the look, the smell - he's aware on some level that it's not normal, but he doesn't actually care. It's something that will always get his attention.

Nate can be exceptionally charming when he wants to be and knows how to push the right buttons to get on someone's good side.
