Character Profile
Name: Jackson Haas
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Type: Dreamer
Appearance:
6'3, brown hair, lopsided smile, ability to cock one eyebrow Roger Moore style. Yeah...Jackson is your typical tall, dark and handsome kinda guy. Jackson carries himself with a slight swagger, a knowledge that he's pretty attractive, and has a tendency to smirk. He dresses nice, and is usually scrubbed pretty clean although he tends to rock a 5 o'clock shadow. There's not much going on behind Jackson's brown eyes - sure, they're warm and not soulless by any means, but good luck finding a hidden depth.
Personality:
Kind of a loudmouth, generally likable, an all-round "normal" dude. Unless you dig into his family issues, Jackson tends to be a "what you see is what you get" kind of guy. He jokes around a lot, his tact levels are sometimes that of a 13 year old boy's, and while he can be outrageously flirtatious he doesn't like to screw around (well, he likes to get laid, but he's no playboy Lothario at any stretch). Women tend to like him, but he doesn't do long term commitment much to anything other than his job, and kicking the ass of the Mob - at least trying to. He maybe swears too much, and can sometimes be a little bit misogynistic (women are for protecting!), but really he would class himself as being pretty boring and issue-free.
People who get to know him really well though? That whole "hero complex" bullshit is getting old fast, and borders on suicidal. And the phrase "family issues" might be the understatement of forever. Jackson is overprotective, in denial about his problems, and physically unable to touch anything even bordering on what he classes as "touchy-feely girly emotional crap". He's an explosion waiting to happen.
Sexuality:
Straight
City History:
Jackson Haas was born on the 13th of July, with an older brother (Paul) already toddling around and a younger sister (Jenny-May) to follow in two years time. His Dad (Florian) was a Norwegian diplomat (hence the last name and the height) and his Mother (Rosette) was of stockier Italian-American build (hence the colouring and the love of foul language). They were a good, God-fearing family. Even if Daddy Haas had drinking problems and a tendency to come to blows with his spit-fire tempered wife. It was normal though, wasn't it? They always had plenty to eat, they were always loved. So nothing could explain to Jackson why his big brother did what he did. Got hooked on bad company and drugs, decided to be a Mobster, a thief, a dirt bag. And Jenny-May got herself raped at the tender age of 15 because Paulie didn't play by the rules and someone wanted to give him a warning. Tore the Haas family apart. Pretty little Jenny with the big treacle-coloured eyes was never the same. Barely spoke, even after the vicious beating she'd been given healed up, went in and out of hospital - just a matter of time before she went off the hinges and ended up in Bedlam. Didn't bear thinking about.
Jackson took it upon himself to look after them, after that. Paul was gone, off in the underworld somewhere, and God help him if Jackson ever laid a hand on him. He joined the Police, watched his Father die of liver failure, his Mother slowly lose the plot, his sister become a recluse. Jackson was the only normal one left. He worked his way from the beat to Detective to Vice far quicker than he should have for a kid who dropped out of school at 16. Street-smart, that's what they said. Had a handful of girlfriends, saved a couple lives, and then was so damn proud when he found the three dirtbags who had broken his sister. Put them in jail. Well - not before he broke one of their jaws, put another in a coma. Jail was too good for those sickos. He scared himself slightly with the white-hot rage that came out as he pounded those guys - but only slightly. It was Justice, after all. No regrets. He was a good cop. Still is. Always will be.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Jackson fights and shoots pretty damn well, it comes with the training, but he's also just got a real knack for it. He's also not a terrible cook, in fact when it comes to Italian food he's actually kind of awesome.
Weaknesses:
Big Damn Ego...I Mean Hero: Jackson is a White Knight, a Paladin, a Protector of the Innocent. He tends to think of himself in terms of Capital Letters, anyway. He's got a pretty high opinion of himself, and often times this "Hero" complex comes across as him being brash rather than selfless. It mostly comes from a good place, but there's a certain arrogance about his desire to always rush in and save the day that can't be ignored. At best, his impatience and persistence pisses people off. At worst? He can outright put himself and others in mortal danger because he always has to play the Saviour.
Moral Highground: To Jackson, there is no such thing as "greater good". You have to kill a baby in order to save the world? Not gonna happen. You rescue the baby and you save the world some other way. He's a firm believer in the third option, even if there isn't one. It's a pigheaded and stupid way to think, but Jackson won't stumble from it, and It'll probably end up getting him fired, killed, or something worse.
Emotional Capacity of a Brick: Well, okay, maybe that's a little strong, but it takes Jackson a while to get there when the complexities of the human Psyche are the problem. He's "Police Smart" - so he can tell when a criminal's going to run and probably where the bastard'll hole up, but he couldn't for the life of him explain the motivation. He hates people crying because it confuses the heck out of him. He has a hard...well...more like impossible time vocalising what he's feeling. Ever. If Jackson's upset about something (or someone he cares about is) his solution usually amounts to: "Me Big Man. Me Hit Hard. Me Make Better."
Family Values: Jackson has some pretty hardcore hatred for his big brother, which is pretty much only equalled by how much he loves his Mother and his Sister. Hurt them? He'll break you. Jackson believes that family comes first, always, and he itches to teach his brother Paul a lesson in what happens when you mess with that perfect trust.
Strengths:
Happy-Go-Lucky: Jackson believes in the best possible outcome. He's an optimist and very hard to make grouchy. He cracks jokes, looks on the bright side, and believes the best in people until they prove him otherwise. He can be positive about pretty much anything
Fighting Fit: Jackson isn't immune to bullets or able to leap from an explosion unharmed, that would be ridiculous, but he keeps himself in shape to an almost "Action Hero" level. He's not afraid to use violence against people he considers deserving and if it's a fair fight? His fists will rarely let him down.
Family or Connections:
Various Police officers from various departments, especially Vice. He's fairly friendly with most people he works with. Also his family, Paul Haas (Estranged older brother, involved in criminal dealings with the DiGiovanni's), Jenny-May Haas (younger sister) and Rosette Haas (Mother).
He knows a couple of "sketchier" members of society, such as Hookers and petty drug users just from general police business.
Residence:
A small, slightly shabby, but not too Ghetto apartment on the third floor of a building near Fontaine Park. Jackson's place has a bedroom, a kitchen/living room combo and a bathroom. His Neighbours seem to be okay - but it's possible they just keep their heads down because Jackson isn't discreet about being a Cop.
Career:
Police officer. Detective, on the Vice squad to be specific. Drugs and hookers - yay?
PB: Zachary Quinto
