Character Profile

Name: Ginger Mary Gordon

Age: 23

Gender: female

Type: Aspect

Appearance:

Ginger isn't Ginger at all- at least any more. When she was born she had fine strawberry red hair but as she grew from a baby to toddler the red faded to a soft, golden yellow. She keeps her blond hair tied back. She believes it is her one true beauty and takes good care of her golden locks. She brushes it 100 strokes every night.

She's a petite woman and pretty, though she often looks tired. She's starting to lose some of the glow of youth - that's the two kids thing. She can't afford enhancement creams or make up. She just doesn't have time for a stringent beauty routine. The most she can do is iron her thread bare dresses and out dated fashions.

But, you're never fully dressed without a smile...or so the song goes and Gingers smile is worth a million bucks. She hands them out like gum drops.

Personality:

If Ginger's personality was a food it would be strawberry shortcake- The biscuit recipe with the fresh whipped cream. There's no store bought sponge cake here. There's just something about this creamy, berry sweet concoction that seems as wholesome and as sweet as Ginger.
Ginger likes to talk, a LOT. She's a chatter box and once her tongue gets wound up it goes on and on so long as the company she keeps lets her. She's been at home for years with two small children. Adult conversation is coveted, yearned for and when she gets it she had so much to say - Sometimes about nothing at all. Some might not call it a conversation at all. It takes someone with a little bit of gumption to get a word in edge wise.
She has a great sense of humour, a necessity when you're a single mom with two kids. Though, she's not very good with sarcasm - she doesn't always get that it is sarcasm, which leaves her confused and feeling like she's missed a step.
Ginger also loves to take care of people and does so with no expectation in return. She enjoys seeing people smile and she feels that kindness is the key to unlocking everything that is wonderful in the universe. She dreams of a world where people live to do good. She's been wearing rose colored glasses for most of her life and it is difficult for her to see the evil that men do. She's not entirely naïve but in denial that someone would intentionally cause harm.
She tries to memorize the names of everyone she meets. Ginger is the sort of person that never forgets a face. She can still recall everyone she went to school with up until the day she left to have Frankie.
Also, she hates charity. She needs to believe that she can make it through the bad times and create something wonderful for her Children. It isn't that she is against getting help, she just doesn't want it out of pity.

Constants:

Mother Earth-

-Giving: Ginger would probably starve herself if it meant the whole world never went hungry. She doesn't flinch when doing a selfless act and does it without wanting reciprocation.

-Nurturing: Ginger is by all means encouraging and wants everyone she knows to do well and believes they are capable of great things. She tries to water these sprigs of growth in the hopes that all those that deserve it (and some that don't) flourish with their potential.

-Motherly: Ginger is protective of those she loves...likes (or even knows).
Along with the giving and nurturing parts of herself she loves unconditionally.

City History:

Ginger's life didn't turn out the way she planned. She guesses it never does. She never planned on being a widow. But, she got the kids. She'd
always wanted the kids. She'd always wanted to find The One, settle
down, have a huge family. She imagined Christmases around the fire in
the living room of a large home in the suburbs. Family and loved ones sipping egg nog, Barbeques in the summer and rose bushes in the front yard.

She never thought she'd get stuck in a two bedroom apartment in a bad part of the city with two young
kids.

It had started out right. She met The One early on when she was still in high school. Her first love - Ricky. He'd been wonderful and she had been completely in love - and she'd fallen pregnant at 17. That was where it first went wrong. But, they loved each other and despite the disapproval from their families they decided they would make it work - the quite high school and got engaged. They had a slightly smaller, more modest, quicker version of her dream wedding with no help from their parents.

Ricky went to work at a local hardware store as she set up their new home. Their son, Frankie, came along and then Ginger found herself pregnant again soon after. Their son was barely one when their first daughter, Maria, came along. Belts were tightened and in the end Ricky decided that he needed to find a better job to support them.

The new job the army. The pay was better than his job at the hardware
Store anyways. It was only temporary. He'd learn practical skills he could use later in life. Ricky saw it as the only way he could provide for his family and make a life that was worthwhile for the ones he loved.

And so began Ginger's time alone. Ricky always sent his pay
Home and it meant that she and the kids could live in a better place - a real house, though a small one, and still in the city. He went through boot camp and she saw him whenever he could get time off. Then the war started and the day came when he was deployed overseas. She definitely never planned for that. She received letters and promises. Many sleepless nights went by as she worried constantly about his fate.

He told her not to worry. He promised he'd return. Unfortunately he couldn't keep that promise. Ginger never saw him again. MIA was the official word - somehow that always seemed crueler to her than the government coming right out and saying he'd been killed. At least then she'd know. At least then she wouldn't have that tiny part of her that thought he'd come home someday.

She settled into her widow's pension, but money was tight - tighter
than it had ever been. The house had to go, and she and the kids ended
up in an apartment in cramped conditions, in the bad part of town. It wasn't great, but it was all she could afford. That was two years ago now, and for most of that time, Ginger has been confined to that cramped little apartment looking after her two children.

With no family to speak of in the city (their parents disowned the two kids before the wedding) there was no one to turn to for help. She knows everyone in the building though - she lets the children play out in the hallways a lot, which means she knows everything that goes on, all the gossip.

For years it was her only link to the outside world. It's got a little better lately - Frankie has now started school, and a lady upstairs has agreed to take Maria for a few hours each day, which means that Ginger can get out a little more than she's been able to.

Special Skills and Abilities:

Ginger is brilliant at making something out of nothing. She's been struggling to make ends meet for years now, and she can stretch a budget like you wouldn't believe. She can remember a name, even of someone she only met once awhile back.

Weaknesses:

Dissocialized - Not by choice, but Ginger has been mostly separated from the world for a few years now. Life as a poor single mother has been hard on her, and it's been lonely. For the past five years, the majority of her interaction has been with children, and so she sees the world that way. She's just not used to interacting with adults anymore, and really, having left high school early and not working herself, she never got that much of a chance to learn the adult social ropes to start with.

Dreamer - Ginger always thinks life is going to get better. She's an optimist, but not necessarily a realist. She does the best with what she has, but what she has isn't enough. She's the kind of person who honestly thinks that love can conquer all, even if her life has never shown her that. She doesn't let reality stand in the way of dreams.

Poor - Ginger is poor, there's no two ways about it. She's poor, unskilled, has two children and there's no way out for her. Well, not without compromising herself, anyway. Often she has to go without to feed her children. Sometimes she can barely make rent, let alone put food on the table. It's a real and honest struggle to make ends meet. Of course, there's always ways of getting by in Eidolon City - it all depends on what someone is willing to do.

Strengths:

Perseverance - Ginger's been through a lot, she knows she'll be through more, and she's determined to make it. To maybe not keep her head above water, but keep herself and her kids from drowning, at the very least. She's used to things being lonely and hard, and what it's done is make her a strong woman. It'll take a lot to actually break her spirit.

Family or Connections:

No family to speak of other than her kids, but is well known in her
apartment building and around the neighborhood.

Her upstairs neighbor is Brett Trent and she got to know Eris Stockard
whilst Eris was living with Brett.

Residence:

A poky, two bedroomed apartment on the edge of the bad side of town, near the park.

Career:

Since the death of her husband, Ginger has been supplementing her meager income by taking in laundry. It's a job she can do from home, and the building super allows her to use space in the basement for drying.
