Character Profile
Name: Ava Novikov
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Type: Aspect
Appearance:
The only two things that are constant about Ava's physicality are her skin color and eye color. She sports pale skin and light blue eyes. The natural color of her hair is blonde and while she's grown increasingly fond of it over the years, she as a plethora of wigs that she uses to constantly change her outward appearance. Her current favorite is bright red and curly. She has been able to get rid of most of her accent, but there is still a distinctly Russian twinge to her words.
Personality:
Ever heard the saying, "Less is more'? Ava Novikov certainly hasn't. She lives by one rule and one rule alone: More is more. And she can never really find a good place to call it quits. Ava is strong-willed, stubborn, and die-hard when it comes to what she wants (which could be anything). She will get what she wants or the whole world will have to hear about it until she does. She is not opposed to using as much force as her body can give her and knows her way around a pistol if it comes to that.
Sexuality:
Mostly straight, but she'll swing any way she needs to to get what she wants.
Constants:
Type - Other (Greed)
Constants
-Covetousness
The newest purse, the most expensive dress, that diamond bracelet in the store window? Ava needs them. All of them. And she needs them all right. now. Her undying desire to have things she doesn't also attributes to non-material items as well. There's a couple in love near her? She'll want a boyfriend. A woman with a baby? Having a baby doesn't sound so bad to her. Luckily, she's got the attention span of a goldfish or she might actually think having these things are worth her while. As it is, she simply wants them.
-Pack rat
Ava has a very bad tendency to just store things. Having come from meager beginnings, Ava has an underlying fear that she may, one day, not be able to get everything her heart desires again. Because of this, she keeps her penthouse stocked with everything she thinks she may want. She's not so bad off in this fear that she keeps things she knows she won't want, like trash, around, but she's noticed she's been keeping things that she previously wouldn't have. She tries to keep all her things as organized as possible, but her own bedroom is a disaster zone of outfits she tried on, newspapers she's read, and plates she's eaten off of.
-Dissatisfied
Say she gets that coveted mink coat. She might wear it for a day or so, but after that, it's pretty much just thrown into her closet and never seen again. By then, she's moved on to those black leather pumps or that new, wavy brunette wig in her favorite store.
In the Theatre, Ava is a pauper. She has little to no money to suffice herself and is more or less homeless, spending most of her time in the pub trying to pick up men so that she has a bed to sleep on. Ava is crude and honest, but the most obvious change of her personality is that that need she has to acquire things has gone haywire. It's left her unable to think about much else. It can get so bad that she could potentially wander into someone else's house and believe that it's hers, and really, truly think that she owns the whole kit and caboodle.
City History:
Since a young age, Ava Novikov knew that she had a problem with moderation. As the daughter of a low-ranking Russian family, she was born into poor conditions and poor social status. She blames her need for excess on the fact that, as a child, she was left to go without for many a night. One of her clearest memories was at exactly 10 years old, when little Annabell Slovsky rubbed it in her face that she had the newest dress and Ava didn't. Ava, consequently, punched Annabell in the face, stole the pretty hair barrette she wore (because she couldn't very well steal the girl's dress), and never spoke to her again.
After that, Ava's obsession with possessing things led her down a slippery slope. Her home wasn't good enough, so she left at 18 and found herself living in a ratty apartment with a job as a waitress at a nameless bar in town. She hated it. She skipped from job to job, gathering money and spending it as soon as possible, but even this didn't satisfy her. She was stuck in a dead-beat world, in a dead-beat job, with an awful apartment. Ava wanted more.
At the age of 20, she stumbled across Babylon and her possession of things shifted into a much deeper routed need. Possession of pleasure. The hotel itself was nice, but she knew it wasn't simply a hotel. Just a short chat with the Madame at the time and Ava was assigned a room and a work load. Babylon was the one place in Eidolon City to hold her attention for more than a few years. Ava chose to stay at the brothel for two reasons: it provided her with pleasure and money. Ava was paid handsomely for her skills, but reluctantly had to turn over a percentage of her earnings to Eris. At first, she found this transaction to be unwarranted and unnecessary, but as she grew to know Eris, her view changed. She developed a sense of respect for the woman. Ava saw Eris as a successful business owner who got what she wanted and provided a safe, clean work place for her business to thrive. The woman was always looking out for her girls and while Ava had no qualms with the clients' requests, she knew on repeat occasion that Eris would make sure her girls were treated exactly the way they wanted to be. Ava was considered one of the better girls at Babylon. She worked frequently and had quite a few regular clients during her time there. She found the lure of sexual activity that she was paid for to be too much to give up on.
Until one day she woke up and she was bored. She had the same routine day in and day out. On a day off from Babylon, Ava found herself face to face with the man who changed her life. Irving Winthrop, age 73, was 47 years her senior when Ava married him and became the next Mrs. Winthrop. Irving was old, rich, and head over heels for the 26 year old blonde bombshell. Because he came from old money (the origin of which Irving never told Ava), he was able to supply her with anything and everything she wanted. In turn, she was his lion in the bedroom and his trophy in the public eye.
The latter of her expectations made her a prime target in the death case of Irving Winthrop. She assured the court that while yes, there was a considerable age difference between them, that she 'loved' her husband very much. Irving didn't know she was unfaithful to him any chance she got and that Ava's definition of love was purely physical in this sense (or that she had never been in love with anything, according to the more accepted notion of the word). She loved that Irving could give her what she wanted and she loved that she had to do so little in order to get what she wanted. Eventually, she was cleared on all charges accused against her and it was said that Irving Winthrop had died due to natural causes.
The ex-Mrs. Winthrop became Ava Novikov again at age 28, but this time she was allotted the whole of Irving's remaining fortune, since the man had no heirs. He'd prided himself on being a strict bachelor when they met. It didn't take long for Ava to change his mind on that front.
Recently, she learned of the death of the one person she'd managed to actually respect during her lifetime. As news of Eris' demise reached her ears, Ava considered taking a trip back down to Babylon to check out what the Syndicate had done to the brothel but thought better of it. If Eris was no longer there, she wanted nothing more to do with the place. She would never admit this to anyone, but Ava grieved Eris' death and is, to this day, sorry the woman is gone.
So now, with a bank account full of money and beautiful penthouse in a high rise apartment on the city's north side, Ava is setting out to get herself back in the public eye. Sure, she might have enough money to live more than comfortably on for the rest of her natural life, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want more. She's ready to hit Eidolon City again make it hers, as best she can.
Special Skills and Abilities:
-Strong linguistics
Ava is fluent in the Russian language and would prefer to use it in any situation, but rarely finds someone who knows enough Russian for her to converse with. She learned English as a young girl and picked it up rather quickly. Currently, she is learning Italian (in order to try and get an edge up on the DiGiovanni). Ava uses this to her advantage. In the past, she's played the 'confused foreigner' card deftly. It, in fact, was one of the reasons Irving found her so enthralling. She was just so damn cute sometimes, purposefully mistaking her words and asking him to explain things. This ability to play coy in the presence of others has given her considerable gifts during most of her life.
-Self-defense
Ava is no push over. She keeps a small, hand-held pistol in her purse at all times and knows exactly which areas to strike on a man or a woman to bring them to their knees.
Weaknesses:
-One track mind
This was called stubbornness when she was younger. It's called annoying now that she's older, but she couldn't care what others think of her. When she sets her eyes on something, she won't look away until she gets it.
-Short Fuse
Ava doesn't like to be pushed or to be told no. When she wants something, she wants it, and she'll find a way to get it no matter who's trying to stop her. Because of this, she has resorted to violence and manipulation in the past to get what she wanted. She's prone to outbursts, publicly or privately, when things don't go her way.
-No concept of money
With all of her newfound money, Ava was tempted to spend it all the instant it was bequeathed to her. Luckily, Irving's estate came with his own personal accountant who still works for the accounts, but he's since noticing frequent withdrawals of money from Ava's account. The man has tried to talk her out of her spending habits, to no avail.
Strengths:
-Like a rock
Ava isn't really phased by much. If she witnessed a murder, she'd shrug it off and think about how nice it would be to have the murderer's pistol as her own. The only things that can get a rise out of her is someone taunting her about something she lacks. Otherwise, she could care less if you're starving, hurt, or trying to peddle something.
