Character Profile

Name: Alec Ravenwood

Age: 35

Gender: Male

Type: Dreamer

Appearance:

Despite standing at 5'11", Alec looks very much the part of millionaire playboy. He is well groomed and well dressed with short brown hair and bright blue eyes. He has an easy, charismatic smile that he rarely shows, looking serious most of the time. Despite his stature, Alec commands attention wherever he is and gives off the aura of power, something laid over from his time in the military. He is in excellent physical condition, defined muscles hidden under his suits and coats. He walks with a purposeful, confident stride and dresses neatly: expensive suits and well kept casual clothes. Out of the office, Alec wears his old, dark green army jacket, casual slacks and steel-toed boots in an effort not to stand out when he goes on one of his walks.

Alec has several various scars all over his body. Those that he can, he's covered up with tattoos. He has a tattoo of a raven with its wings spread across his back for his surname (and also for a way to cover up several scars on his back). He has the United States military shield on his left bicep. Alec also has a small scar on the left side of his forehead. His worst is a rough looking, puckered scar over his right thigh from the pieces of shrapnel that ended his military career.

Personality:

A troublemaker in his youth, Alec has mellowed over the years. When he was once a daredevil and selfish, attention seeking child, Alec as an adult is a well mannered, well spoken, and easy going man who is fairly easy to talk to (although this isn’t to say he can’t be a scoundrel from time to time). Alec has a way with words that is direct and to the point that doesn't sound like he's patronizing. He genuinely means it when he asks "Tell me more", be it about the person, the business proposition, or the situation that his assistance is being asked for and it shows. It makes him a good man to do business with. You don't feel like you're going to be cheated and you don't feel like you're only being tolerated. Alec is genuine enough that even when he isn't interested, he still sounds like he is and he still acts like he is. Among friends and loved ones, Alec’s workaholic behavior fades enough for him to be able to have a good time.

In the business world, Alec will promote hardworking employees. He doesn't care who your parents were or if you're good sex. To succeed, you must prove your worth. Ravenwood Steel Mills prides itself as a competitive workplace after all and Alec strives to promote healthy competition to those who work for him. However, sabotage (or claiming someone else's work as your own) is inexcusable and cowardly and Alec does not tolerate it and shows the weakness and cowardice of that person.

The mob influences in Eidolon City is something that is difficult for Alec to deal with, as he feels this upsets the balance in other people's fights for survival. His philosophy has also made him an enemy to more than a few of his EC employees, who are used to the manipulations and dishonesty of the mob and feel comfortable there.

Alec is a strategist and with his focus, he not only comes up with plans a and b, but he throws in options c, d, and e. His attention to detail and need to make sure all bases are covered is a valuable asset. He approaches his every day business as he would a pivotal battle in war. However, it makes it difficult for him to be flexible when unforeseen scenarios that are out of the norm pop up and causes him anxiety.

Although proud of himself for the person he's become, there is still a part of Alec that misses the frivolity and excitement of his youth.

Sexuality:

Straight

City History:

The youngest of four, in terms of business and inheritance, Alec was unnecessary. There were already two more in line ahead of him to inherit Ravenwood Steel Mills and the fortune that went with it so Alec was left mostly to his own devices. He wanted for nothing, his parents (Thomas and Vivianne) content to just let him have want he wanted if it kept him out of their hair and happy. Thomas had a business to run and Vivianne already had to deal with three boys and the fact that she was getting old.

Not only all but neglected by his parents, but Alec was not that close with his brothers either. Phillip, the oldest (fifteen years older than Alec), had to worry about the pressure he was under to fulfill Thomas' shoes. Andrew (eleven years older than Alec) was to attend Harvard to become a lawyer. and Winifred (eight years older than Alec), would go on to make a fine marriage. Alec was just there and would have his nice little trust fund and they wouldn't have to worry about him.

It all happened very fast. One day Philip was fine, then there was a cough, and then three weeks later, they were putting him in the family tomb. By this time, Andrew had already started establishing himself in the District Attorney's Office and so it fell upon Alec to take up the family business.

However, at fifteen, Alec was a handful. He'd been kicked out of three boarding schools already for misconduct (fighting for the most part) and had been spending the summer off doing God knows what. Like Phillip's death, change once again rocked Alec's world in a short amount of time and he found himself at Carson Long Military Institute. It was hard. Really hard. He was cited as a behavioral problem when first enrolled and because of that, was given more of a hard time by his commanding officers and teachers. He spent more time in the brig, doing extra drills, and running the obstacle course for talking back than he did for his studies.

The school's nurse, an older, graying woman and sister to the General, introduced Alec to the finer points of how to pray (and no, that's not an euphemism). While everyone attended the Protestant services each Sunday, Alec found himself seeking refuge of the chapel more and talking back less.

For the remainder of his high school education, Alec became one of the top cadets, excelling in strategy, and showed excellent leadership skills.

It was then he was expected to go to higher education to major in business so he could come home and start learning the family business. No one anticipated the war and his family certainly didn’t anticipate their son wanting to properly enlist and continue on. That’s what happened though, and after graduation, he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating with honors, and eventually was promoted to the rank of Captain, due to his sharp mind, focus, and gift of strategy. He was then shipped out overseas to the war.

It was there where Alec's military career came to an end. A mine went off, killing two of Alec's men and severely injuring himself and five others. Alec nearly lost his life when shrapnel was embedded into his thigh, but with quick medical assistance, Alec did not lose his leg or his life. Alec was given a purple heart and an honorable discharge and Alec was sent home to Eidolon City to recover.

While Alec missed his simpler, military life, he was also pleased to see that, even though he was the last choice, he had done his parents proud with what he'd accomplished. Alec's officer training aided him greatly and he became an important asset to the family company.

Shortly after completing physical rehab, Alec's father brought him officially into the family business. Alec has taken on more of the day to day business of running the steel mills. Discussing business, taking care of production problems. Overseeing the factories.

The Alec that returned to Eidolon City to take over the family was much different from the Alec that had left several years ago. This Alec brought down the fist of the Ravenwood family like the fist of an angry god. In the recent years, the Konovich had a better time trying to worm their way into the business. People found to be unloyal to the company were thrown out without pay, all benefits and retirement funds gone. Then the memo went out. All employees found to be working with the mob (either one) would be fired and handed over to the police for illegal activities. However, their families would not be punished for their wrongdoing.

It worked. Most turned themselves in and their families were given compensation and a chance to start over for themselves. The Konovich were the ones to suffer, as the DiGiovanni's either got their men out faster or had truly honored the bargain that they made.

Special Skills and Abilities:

Alec is good with a variety of weapons (guns, knives, explosives) from his military background as well as being an adept fighter.

Weaknesses:

Married to the Job: He’s punctual and spot-on in his work obligations, and he’ll forsake personal obligations to fulfill them. He’s the guy that’ll be burning the candlelight while you’re sitting alone at a table for two, chugging down champagne and trying to ignore the ‘STOOD UP’ sign above your head.

You Mean He Isn't Even Sorry?: Alec has little remorse over the drawbacks of the decisions he has to make. Every decision has a drawback, be it in the business world or in combat, even in the world of relationships. You just do what you have to do. You can’t dwell on it because you’ll start to second guess everything

You Blew It, Buddy: There are no second chances with Alec, just as there are no second chances in life. Honor and duty are codes that Alec lives by and being stabbed in the back, lied to, or the like is wholly unacceptable and, in Alec's eyes, are weakness. Now, he isn't going to get mad at you for lying about your name. Everyone lies like that (Alec is certainly no saint), but when it comes to bigger things, sorry. One chance and that's it.

Nightmares: Fighting overseas was no picnic. Staring into the faces of your enemy. Slaughtered civilians. The things Alec has seen has stayed with him. The guilt he carries for the deaths of members on his team. For the people he was unable to stay. Alec is plagued with nightmares. Occasional bouts of insomnia has aided his workaholic behavior.

Injuries: Most of the time, Alec’s okay. He jogs and walks and tries to keep active but he has a bad tendency to not rest his injured leg when the doctor orders him too. There was some nerve damage and if he’s not careful with it, the doctor warns him that he could end up reliant on a cane or worse, a wheelchair. And those warnings are coming more often lately.

Unattached: For someone whose going to be getting into politics, his image could use a little work. Yes, he has the perks of his excellent reputation and family name, but he doesn’t have that perfect political image. The wife, the three children, and the family dog. Sure, he could have any woman he wants, but he’s never been very good at relationships.

Strengths:

High Pain Tolerance: He is by no means The Man of Steel and getting punched in the face hurts like hell, but Alec works through it. Military school and the army was no place for crybabies who wailed at a simple skinned knee and Alec has spent time working up his dexterity. It makes him an excellent fighter and able to last much longer than his opponents.

Reputation: The Ravenwood family has an excellent reputation and Alec does a good job of upholding it. Not just that, but he’s formed a positive reputation of his own as a economic businessman, promoting a safe workplace, and being non-mob affiliated. It also goes without saying that being a war hero doesn’t hurt either.

Family or Connections:

Family: Two parents, three siblings.

Others: Marian, the pretty waitress from Nighthawks. Yeah. He's totally not attracted to her. Cause that would be wrong.

Residence:

Alec resides in his town house on Elysium Avenue.
