Character Profile

Name: Jessie Angelia James (nicknames: called Baby J by family, JJ by classmates)

Age: 16

Gender: female

Type: Aspect

Appearance:

Jessie is a very cute girl. Her parents were actually fairly good looking people, and she got the gene. She's got green eyes like her father's, and while she doesn't necessarily follow current trends or the like, she tries with what she has. She's delicate looking, but isn't a girly little flower. She's a bit of a tomboy when she wants to be, taking after her father more than he'd like. She usually wears her hair down, not having much in the way of fancy things to pin it up with, and she was never a girl who was afraid to get dirty.

Personality:

A daddy's girl through and through, Jessie is first and foremost that. Beyond that, she's generally speaking, a good kid. She's not been in much trouble(and the trouble she has been in she swears was justified!). Her upbringing has been mostly done by her father and his family, which has instilled in her a basically good set of morals and ideals. Family is everything, be grateful for what you have, try not to make anyone cry, if you took something, put it back, all that sort of thing. The loving environment she's been in and around has really shaped her world view.

What it hasn't done is keep her from taking after her father. While not a thief like him, she has a lot of the same sensibilities he does. She doesn't like it if she sees people who need to be defended--she's stepped up more than once in her life, and her daddy certainly taught her to throw a decent punch. Jessie has a hard time not playing caregiver to those around her if they're at all injured, even minorly so. She's patched up her father enough times that she's actually getting pretty good at it. She also has his ability to be quite endearing to those around her--Jessie's a hard girl not to like. She's witty, sweet, has a playful edge to her that others seem to be drawn towards and a ready, bright smile that's often present.

She also is a girl who speaks her mind. Mostly due to the fact that her family has never discouraged her from doing so, and she has a very solid relationship with her father specifically, Jessie's never afraid to share her opinions on things, even if the person she's talking to might not like them so much. She's not mean spirited, but if she thinks something's not on the level, she'll damn well let you know about it. And why. And why you should rethink it. She definitely doesn't hold anything back with her dad, which was why when he came home with a gunshot wound, she laid down the law there, and told him he needed to quit whatever he was into. One thing she's certainly got over her father is she's much more level headed. (he often says his policy is if he isn't quite sure what to do, he asks her and goes with whatever she says) Where he can be wickedly impulsive, JJ has an easier time curbing urges til she's thought them through at least slightly.

Sexuality:

hetero

Constants:

~ Ariadne ~

guide - Helping other people comes as natural to Jessie as breathing; she literally can't not give help if people need it but it isn't necessarily direct - she helps people to help themselves. While this mostly comes in the form of providing a moral compass for her dad, she'll give advice, loan money, drive someone to where they need to be - anything she can to get them out of trouble.

attracted to trouble - Like a moth to flame, Jessie can't help but find herself drawn to trouble again and again. Going to parties with underage drinking, hanging out with 'questionable' types and her endless fascination with her dad's criminal past, she literally cannot help herself

love trumps duty - Jessie may have a little more respect for the law than her father but rules are quickly pushed to the side when love enters the equation. Regardless of how much trouble she might get in, when it comes down to people she cares about, nothing else matters. Nothing.

City History:

Born to a very young couple, JJ had an interesting time growing up. While her mother was around in her younger years, she had more or less taken off by the time JJ was walking and talking properly. Mainly, she's been raised by her family, collectively. That includes her father, of course, and his family. Her mother's family really haven't had much if anything to do with her. But she had a very warm household to grow up in, with aunts all over, her grandparents, and of course, her daddy.

JJ knows she's been kind of catered to, really. She's aware these days that a lot of times she had better in her life than her family's financial situation should have provided. He hasn't talked about it at all, it's just something she's noticed in the past year or so, and she's grateful for it. Everyone kind of pulled together to raise her, and she's never going to forget that. If things were hard, they weren't really telling her about it, and they still made sure she had some toys, she had clothes, she was fed properly.

Because she was kind of brought up by a collection of people, she's had a lot of different points of view in her life to learn from. What that's done is made her an open minded person, and one that can see other people's perspectives easily, never only relying on her own as 'right'. That's helped her out some in school, since the social order of school is all over the map. It's helped her get along with people from all sorts of different backgrounds, and tolerant towards a whole host of different types of personalities.

Most recently, the biggest bump in her life was when her father came home shot. It was a few months ago, but she's always aware that he still walks with a limp. It's taken a little of the innocence in her world away, made her much more aware that sometimes? People in this city didn't come home. It was something she knew, but she'd always kind of viewed her dad as invincible. It was a bit of a shock to find out he wasn't.

Special Skills and Abilities:

Jessie can be a pretty decent mediator if people are arguing.

Weaknesses:

Family – like her dad, Jessie’s very big on family, and it wouldn’t be too hard for someone to use them against her. It’s especially bad where her father is concerned: he’s the most important, precious person in her life, and she’ll do flat-out anything for him.

Curiosity – Jessie likes knowing stuff, and tends to stick her nose somewhere it doesn’t really belong. Sometimes this means people get annoyed with her. Others, it means a particular piece of electronics equipment winds up in pieces. And in a few situations, it means Jessie winds up in real trouble. So far, it’s only been detentions at school and groundings at home, but it could easily wind up with more serious consequences.

Paranoia/Overprotectiveness – ever since Jesse came home shot, Jessie’s been really protective of him. She likes knowing what he’s planning on doing for the day so she can find him easily, and she worries if she can’t locate him within a couple hours. She starts panicking if he doesn’t come home when he says he will, though she can generally manage to hold off until he’s been gone with no word for nearly three hours before she starts calling the cops and putting together a search party.

Impossible standards – Jesse compares every guy she meets to her father, and none ever seem to meet the mark. With friends, it’s fine, but if she’s dating them it causes problems. Jessie won’t settle for anything less than the best (she’s been raised to know that’s what she deserves, and not just by her father), but the best isn’t exactly easy to find. Not unless there’s another teenaged version of Jesse James floating around Eidolon somewhere. She's definitely had people interested in her, but yeah. No one's made the grade, and so far she's not dated anyone.

Strengths:

smart cookie - Jessie can think on her feet, something else she inherited from her father, and she's generally speaking a very smart girl. She gets good grades in school, without having to study overwhelmingly hard. If she needs to think fast in a stickier situation, though, she can do it, and that level head of hers helps out there too.

level headed - while sometimes her urges are impulsive, Jessie's a girl who thinks things through, and has good common sense as well as the ability to not freak out immediately over things that might be upsetting. She can keep her wits about her fairly well and doesn't pull random stupid crap that other kids her age might.(or do, she just doesn't participate)

Family or Connections:

her father, Jesse James, her grandparents, Angela and Christopher James, her four aunts, Dorothy, Evelyn, Ruby and Virginia, her cousin Lucy, and her mother, Veronica

Residence:

newly purchased house a few blocks away from her grandparent’s house

Career:

student/keeping her dad in line

PB: Hayley McFarland

Other Information:

clean - due to the fact that she knows her mother's been on and off of drugs most of her life, JJ doesn't ever want to touch them. Even if a lot of her friends have experimented and the like and she's had opportunity to indulge, she won't. It's an deeply ingrained reaction. The thought makes her emotionally upset and physically ill.

she carries at all times a butterfly knife her father had made for her, with her name engraved on the blade. she's been taught basic self defense with it, even if she's never had to draw it for that.

she and her father have an 'ugly figurines' collection they've been adding to since she was little.
