Appearance:

Marian has long wavy, generally unruly hair that she can't quite tame. She's of medium height, a little on the too thin side, and has large, expressive brown eyes. Her clothes are old, thin, and often patched or re-sewn, though they're cared for well. She tries to keep them looking better than they are, even if she fails sometimes with that. She has a sweet, endearing sort of smile, something the dimples help with. Most of the time, people view her as being open and friendly, it's only if she's not paying attention that they can catch a more haunted look in her eyes.

Personality:

Marian has taught herself to be bubbly. It isn't really her natural state, it's more of something she puts on for the world, and a little for herself as opposed to how she would be if she didn't have to try so hard to keep her head above water. Sweet, happy girls who have bright smiles and flirt lightly with customers get better tips than surly ones. She's taken this idea and used it to blanket her whole life, putting up the front for near everyone.

Underneath, she's troubled. She's barely able to make it, she knows she's got siblings and cousins out there who need her help too, and she's at a total loss. She is quite simply not in a position where she can be of any real help, and she knows it. It pains her, and it's why she occasionally avoids seeing anyone she's related to. And why other times she shows up out of the blue in a clingy, guilt-wracked mood where all she wants to do is stay, and be around them to make up for wanting to be away. She's a girl who feels constantly like she's just about to drown.

Sexuality:

Straight, but due to her intimacy issues, she rarely acts on attractions and tends to shy away from sexual attention.

City History:

Things were fine, before. She remembers when they were fine. Growing up, when she'd been little, it had all been pretty awesome. Then things got harder, and those memories blot out most of the good. Three huge families in one household, that's a whole lot of different personalities, a whole lot of stress, and a huge lack of privacy. And there was never enough. Never enough food, medicine, space, it was a hectic existence at best.

When people died, it was hard on Marian. When her father disappeared, it was even worse(as she'd been a bit of a daddy's girl). Things fell apart, and it seemed like it all happened so fast. She, Roy, and a few others did their best to try and keep things going but it really didn't work in the slightest. Not at all. She even broke down and sold herself a few times, but it cracked something in her deep down, and after spending a good three days bawling on her brother, she chose never to do that again. Not ever ever ever. Roy's also the only one who knows what she did, which is why she simultaneously feels closer to him than anyone else in the world, and tends to avoid him for longer periods of time than others. He knows her secret shame, and sometimes she can't face it.

When the kids were all hauled off to the orphanage, she tried to get out as soon as she could. She went through some more dark times, most of which she doesn't speak about and she tried for weeks to get a part time job waitressing at Nighthawk's. She eventually got it, and has tenaciously held onto that job since getting it. She never misses a shift, even if she's sick, and she never slacks off, terrified that she'll lose her job and have to go back to things she won't be willing to do. She barely makes enough to fund her stay at an all female boarding house, sharing a room with three other girls. Sometimes, when she needs the space, she spends the night in Roy's vault with him, and generally goes there when she needs time to stave off a total screaming mental breakdown.

World History:

Prior to falling into the coma, Marian was an aspiring musician. She's a quiet, meek girl, who doesn't come out of her shell much. Much like her city self she also bears a sexual marker, but in the real world she was raped by a friend who she thought she could trust at 16. She's kept the incident a secret, and closed in on herself as a result of it.

Special Skills and Abilities:

if waitressing is a skill, she's got that down pat. she's kept on because she's probably the best waitress they've ever had, and she's incredibly reliable.

Weaknesses:

Emotional Scars - This is by far the most crippling to Marian. She carries around a whole host of issues, pretty much none of that she's actually dealt with. They're all there just beneath the surface, and she always feels like she's just one step away from breaking down. This is because that's truer than she would like. It's actually an accurate assessment. She isn't some girl who's really stronger than she gives herself credit for. No, she knows. She knows well that sometimes she gazes out the window, spacing out as she listens to the rain falling, where she can just feel all those traumas beneath her skin.

Avoidance - Marian doesn't truly deal with things. That means when she wracks up new issues, they really are just more tossed onto the pile. Eventually this will break her, unless she learns to deal with things and move on. She needs most to learn to forgive herself, and her parents, aunts and uncles who she deep down views as betraying all of the kids. She'll never admit that out loud, but it's certainly there. She needs mostly to learn how to let things go, which she's never in her life been any good at.

Intimacy Issues - When Marian decided that her only real choice to make decent money to keep the family afloat was to walk the streets, that really messed her up. She only spoke about it once, to Roy, and hasn't really since. But she hated every second of it, and it taught her that people are depraved. So, yes. She's a little hesitant to even casually get involved with someone. Even if she's warm and bubbly towards people, anything that has to do with physical intimacy, or even anything that ventures past the harmless light flirting she does with customers will make her freeze up. She doesn't mean to be an ice queen or anything, and doesn't want to come off that way, so she tries to avoid it altogether. She's been known to claim she's already involved, just to ensure people don't try anything.

Poor - Marian has exceedingly little money. Even if she makes good tips, that just means she eats better that week, it never means that she's getting ahead.

Strengths:

Likeable - Marian's persona she puts on is quite liekable, and a lot of people are fond of her. It means that she rarely gets too much shit from people, and sometimes if there are problem customers, her regulars'll give a stern enough look to get them to shut up.

Roy - she does have a brother that'll drop everything for her.

Family or Connections:

Roy, tons of other siblings and cousins around the city, most of which she doesn't know the whereabouts of. Three room mates at the boarding house and other people who live there. (like Evelyn)
