Character Profile

Name: Adriana Mercede DiGiovanni (alias: Adriana Rossi)

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Type: Dreamer

Appearance:

With her easy grace and natural elegance, it’s easy to see Adriana as a Princess on high, even in the most mundane situations. She wears dignity and authority like a comfortable pair of shoes, and it’s not always an entirely conscious decision – it’s just part of who she is. It’s because of this that even when she dresses down to blend in with the lower reaches of society she stands out as odd, obviously not really belonging.

Dark haired, dark eyed, and slimly built, Adriana is not all that intimidating as first glance – as a matter of fact, physically speaking, she’s about as scary as a two week old kitten. She’s pretty, well-dressed, and not much of an athlete at all. What’s to be scared of? Of course, that’s only physically speaking – under the right circumstances, Adriana is downright terrifying.

Personality:

Adriana could easily be described as a force of nature. She’s utterly brilliant, genius, even, and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. And she is entirely merciless in her pursuit of them - anything or anyone in her way will either give way or be destroyed. No alternatives. She puts little stock in human life outside of those very few she truly cares for and trusts. To those who follow her, she is fair: do your job right, obey the rules, and you will want for nothing. Step outside the lines, and reap the consequences. And it’s not always death – Adriana is nothing if not creative.

This ruthless member Eidolon’s royalty is not all that Adriana is, however. There’s a person within the princess, one that she’s recently allowed to breathe. This is the young woman most people these days come to know, never realizing the blood and pain Adriana is responsible for causing. Adrian Rossi is an odd girl at times, mysterious and reserved, but easy to talk to and undeniably intelligent. She’s always willing to lend a hand when she can, with a wry sense of humor. Though she’s quick to smile, it’s rarely truly happy, and laughter is as rare as rainfall in a desert.

City History:

Adriana DiGiovanni isn’t just part of the family in name; she’s a DiGiovanni in blood, as well. The youngest daughter of Don DiGiovanni, Adriana grew up with the best of everything, from clothes and toys to food and education. Her family wasn’t terribly close - her father, of course, had a city to run, her mother was his personal bodyguard, and most of Adriana’s siblings were only half on their father’s side, all of them older. Adriana was the favorite, though, the family’s baby, and while none of her siblings or either of her parents spent great amounts of time with her, the majority of them doted on her when they could.

As Adriana grew, it became readily more apparent that she was brilliant. By twelve, her private tutors were teaching her ninth grade level material, and she was near unbeatable on a chessboard. It was impossible to hide the true nature of the family business from her; she was good at finding out what she wasn’t supposed to know, and over half of her closest family members were heavily involved in it besides. It was hardly the disaster expected, however. Adriana had a talent for the job, able to pull together sweeping strategies and unexpected tactics seemingly out of thin air, as well as a slightly disturbing disregard for any lives lost. She worked alongside her favorite brother, one of Don DiGiovanni’s most trusted of under bosses, for the next few years, earning both the fear and respect of even the most hardened and brutal of murderers as she did. But being second-best was something Adriana had never been able to accept, and at fifteen she engineered her escape from her brother’s shadow.

It came in the form of a massacre. In what still stands as one of Eidolon City’s worst bloodbaths, over two dozen people were killed in the battle, including police officers, civilians, and – more importantly – a powerful DiGiovanni under boss and the most loyal of his entire crew. The power vacuum his abrupt death led to a miniature war as the city’s remaining powers rushed to gain a piece of what was left before things could get a chance to stabilize, but the fighting ended quickly: Adriana stepped swiftly into the place she’d made for herself, with few ever even realizing she’d set it up at all. To this day, the warehouse district where the conflict took place bares the faint rust of old bloodstains.

Adriana was a better leader than she was a follower. She’d saved the best her intellect could offer for herself, and it wasn’t long at all until she was the strongest of the DiGiovanni’s under bosses, matched only by her father and a select few siblings – a sister and two brothers, including the one she’d once worked under. Unlike the rest of her family, however, Adriana stayed in the shadows. On the street, few civilians would be able to recognize the DiGiovanni’s Black Princess on sight, let alone Adriana DiGiovanni, and anyone who did know kept silent about it on fear of reprisal.

Two years after Adriana took her place at the top of Eidolon City’s hierarchy, she again became a part of its most infamous events – though this one was entirely unplanned. The assassination attempt on the DiGiovannis killed five, and the resulting fire burned out an entire floor of one of Eidolon’s oldest and grandest hotels. No one was ever caught – the men who’d carried out the job committed suicide before they were identified – and no one ever claimed credit for it. In the wake of the attempt, the seventeen-year-old Adriana left Eidolon on her father’s orders, going abroad to attend University in Rome, Italy.

After graduation, Adriana slipped quietly back into the city. But instead of taking full control of her kingdom back as it was assumed she would, she chose to leave the bulk of the decision-making to her second-in-command as she did while in Italy, stepping in only when she deems it necessary. Italy left her with a quiet appreciation for normal, everyday life, and she’s determined to continue enjoying it for as long as possible. Adriana is now living on her own under the name Adriana Rossi (her mother’s maiden name), making good use of her degree and pretending she’s not quietly controlling a portion of Eidolon’s underworld.

Special Skills and Abilities:

Besides having excellent aim with a firearm, Adriana has a good grasp of the basic criminal skills, such as lock-picking or hotwiring a car, though she doesn’t exactly have loads of practical experience. She makes up for it in other ways: she’s a champion chess player, an outstanding strategist, and an exceptional liar. She’s also fluent in Italian, and knows how to play the guitar.

Weaknesses:

Physically weak - Adriana may be a strategist, but she’s no fighter – if she doesn’t have a gun at hand and can’t think her way out of a situation, she’s helpless. She just doesn’t have the strength or stamina to succeed in any truly physical activities.

Control issues – Adriana has to be in control at all times. Even if it’s just in a round-about way – like having all the pertinent information in a situation – knowing who everyone is, what’s going on, and how it’s going to happen is priority number one, and if she can influence matters, all the better. Even if the event in question is in the past, Adriana needs to be on top of it. The two things that pick at her most? The assassination attempt when she was seventeen, and the damned confusing dreams she keeps having.

Temper – It can sometimes take a lot to get Adriana angry, but when she is, everyone is better off running the other way. Adriana won’t stop until she’s had revenge, and she doesn’t care what sort of damage is done to achieve it. Blood will spill, and consider yourself lucky if it’s blood that leads to your death. As a matter of fact, it was her temper that chose which of her father’s retainers would die for her advancement. That he was one of the more powerful… well, that just made it all the sweeter.
She’s been lucky so far – she’s managed to protect herself and hers from the backlash her temper’s caused. But how far can she go before she forgets or messes up?

Pyrophobia – It’s not quite as severe as some, since she can stand keeping candles lit (the jar kind, anyway), but anything bigger and Adriana starts getting nervous. She can only take the candles because she knows she’s planned ahead – nothing flammable within three feet, glass between the flame and anything else, and a fire extinguisher very close by.

Strengths:

Adriana’s a strong leader, and takes good care of her people. She holds the deep belief that unless the king moves, his subjects won’t follow, and so is always willing to do some of the dirty work herself. She recognizes, also, that she isn’t the best at everything, and is always willing to admit that someone else might be better – though if it’s something she does take great pride in being good at, like strategy, she won’t back down until she’s the best again. She’s charismatic, persuasive, and well-spoken as well. She devises and executes her strategies with speed and precision, and is able to deduce facts from simple clues.

Adriana also has the advantage of an extremely good education.

Family or Connections:

The DiGiovanni as family, and the Giacomo, Bartelucci, and Walker families as affiliates of her position.
Friends with Cheyenne. Others to be revealed.

Residence:

A large, elegantly appointed penthouse suite in one of the best areas of Eidolon – but far enough away from the DiGiovanni home to assert her independence.

Career:

Psychology internship
