Personality:

Rachel can be and often is described as a force of nature. She's someone who is hard to ignore, as she draws attention in naturally. She's beautiful, confident, a vibrant sort of personality that is friendly and outgoing. She has an easy smile, one she shines towards just about everyone.

She's incredibly engaging as a person. When she's talking to someone, she narrows her focus down to just them. Many people who speak to her wind up feeling like they were the only person in the room, regardless of their surroundings. She's a good listener as well as someone who can tell a good story. She's friendly and likes to give everyone a chance. She's the type to overlook social standing and past mistakes people make. Rachel is a big believer in second chances in a grand sense, though if someone wrongs her specifically she'll come down on them like a ton of bricks.

The flipside to her friendly and engaging demeanor is that if someone gets on her bad side, it could be very, very bad for them. Wronging a girl who has people around her with a dark streak isn't a great idea, and if she's angry, she'll let people know. Fearless - Rachel isn't the kind of girl who's going to hide inside just because there's a few big bad wolves out there. If she's got something to do she's going to do it, regardless of what dangers or shadows pop up along the way. She will flat out ignore words of caution if it means she can't get where she's going. People told her to not take a job at the Drake because it was owned by a bad element, but it was the best paying job she could get at the time, so she did it anyway. It isn't that she's stupid, she just doesn't baulk at things others might, and she isn't going to let anything like fear stop her from anything. She’s determined and can be single minded to a ridiculous degree.

The Dark Forest/Big Bad Wolf - There's something about Rachel that draws in people with darker personalities, shadows in their minds. If anyone's going to be attracted to her, it isn't going to be the sweet nice guy who would want to marry her and have a dozen children in a fairytale life, it's the guys (or girls) who have seen the darker things in life, who engage in them, who were swallowed by them, etc. They're drawn to her like moths to flame, finding something about her intriguing. Whatever their mental or emotional scarring might be caused from, those who seek her company are those who have experienced the harsher side of the city in some capacity, and it left it's mark on them.

Helper - She may not be bringing goodies to grandma, but Rachel is the type who will go out of her way if someone catches her attention. She has a particular need to try and help out what others may consider a lost cause. She'll go the extra mile to do it, she has a passion for it, even if she isn't always emotionally attached to those she's helping. For her it's about the problem, about the issue as opposed to the person. She wants to get the job done. She'll dig where she has to, she'll travel through the dark woods to get there, she'll do whatever it is it takes to try and help someone. Considering the types of people who tend to get involved with her or who are drawn to her, she's usually got a never ending barrage of choices for which task to tackle next. She also will not set out to fix people's lives entirely, she chooses one issue to take on at a time, one single focus that she throws all her energy into. Sometimes it's small things--going to tell off someone's ex-boyfriend or loaning someone a little money to get them out of a jam, other times it's going door to door to businesses to help find someone a job or going to every lawyer in town to try and get a good representative for someone who's been arrested. Whatever it is, however, large or small, she fully commits to it and she doesn't take no for an answer. So even if people don't especially want to accept her help? They're getting it anyway.

City History:

Rachel has had an interesting life. She hails from humble beginnings, but nothing overwhelmingly dirt house poor. Her mother was a pretty prominent mistress in her day, which meant they were kept pretty well. They never had a stable normal family life, but they had nice things, and Rachel has some fond memories of some of the richer men her mother was with, who used to like to spoil her. It gave her a less than traditional point of view on life and love, and ensured she was a person who could roll with nearly anything.

She left home at a fairly young age, in her teens to get a job and try her hand at a whole host of different things, sort of floating through life for quite a while just doing whatever. It means she’s seen more or less all walks of life, and has an easy time fitting into any setting. She knows a little about a lot, and has easy times talking to people as well.

Eventually, against people’s better judgment, she took a job at the Drake, because it was the best paying job she could find at the time. She heard rumors about who owned the place--something that really was confirmed when she was working there--but it set her up alright. What really caught her eye, however, was a few parties that happened there. A woman who caused quiet a stir arrived back on the scene, and apparently she had a business. A business that Rachel paid good attention to, and what she saw was girls who were wearing beautiful dresses and jewelry, who apparently got paid just to be on someone’s arm for a night. Well that sounded like something she could do easily, and something she thought sounded fun and exciting. Getting ahold of one of the cards, she headed to the office and got herself a job.

She’s just starting, just getting her foot in the door and meeting the girls. She’s moved into the uptown building, and is settling into her new life.

Special Skills and Abilities:

Jack of All Trades - Rachel's been in a variety of position and has a strange ensemble of skills that she's picked up over the years. She can pick locks, knows a little about cars, has a very good idea of all the places in the city, and can walk on her hands. Don't ask.

Weaknesses:

Pushy - Rachel doesn't always do what people want her to do, even if it has directly to do with them. For instance, when she decides to help someone, even if they flat out refuse what she's offering, or tell her not to do something? She'll do it anyway. She has an inner belief that she knows better than those around her and therefore she reacts accordingly--regardless of how that might come off to others. It can be very off-putting, though she never lets that stop her.

Reckless - She doesn't see it this way, but because she tends to not heed caution, with the way she lives her life, she can be considered reckless. She will do things other people with good sense wouldn't do, she never really looks before she leaps. She's a firm believer in going for it, no matter what 'it' might be. When she engages in things it's whole-heartedly.

Short Sighted - To say Rachel doesn’t think far ahead may actually be understating it. She really isn’t thinking about next year, or even next month. She isn’t a woman with grand plans, she’s much more the type who just goes with what’s right in front of her, whatever that may be. It means she sometimes finds herself in situations that could easily have been avoided, if she’d only stopped to put even minimal effort into considering the longer term consequences.

Blind Spot - Because she’s always surrounded by people who might be darker in nature, she does have a bit of naivety that shows up specifically when it comes to people. It means she will be much more likely to give someone the benefit of the doubt, even if she really shouldn’t. She doesn’t actually differentiate on levels of ‘shady’, thinking everyone deserves a chance, regardless of what their lives might be like. This doesn’t mean she’ll never decide someone’s too far gone for her, but it means she’ll be more likely to strike up a friendship with types she shouldn’t than someone else.

Strengths:

Confident - Rachel has a whole lot of faith in herself. She feels that she knows what she's doing, and she very much has the ability to roll with the punches life throws because she has an inherent belief that she'll find her way through it, that she'll come out the other side just fine. So far, in life, this has been founded. She does seem to come through things just fine and has a positive enough outlook that any time she's really had hard times, she believes it just makes her stronger as opposed to being down about it.

Adaptable - Rachel isn’t the type who gets hung up on things. She doesn’t freeze in new situations, she goes full force into things, throwing herself into anything new with a joy. She likes new and exciting, it never gives her pause. She has the personality where people aren’t going to question if she isn’t perfect, and often times people will step right up to show her the ropes if she needs it.
