Character Profile
Name: Adelaide
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Type: Aspect
Appearance:
Adelaide is short, around 5 feet 3 inches but she’s never been properly measured. She’s also never been properly weighed, but she’s on the scrawny side due to malnutrition. Living on the streets doesn’t necessarily mean that you get to eat every night. Adelaide lives in worn clothing, generally things she snags from stores, trash bins, and consignment shops. However, she has her own personal, albeit small, collection of hats, scarves, and gloves that she wears interchangeably in order to hide her features when she wants to.
Personality:
Adelaide’s personality shifts depending on the situation. Adelaide can be your best friend or your worst enemy depending on what mood strikes her. She’s never afraid to speak her mind; sometimes without a filter, other times filtered and scripted.
Outwardly, she projects a sureness about herself. She’d never let on what she’s feeling inside because keeping up appearances is wholly important in her life. However, for all her outward confidence, she is inherently doubtful about herself. She often turns to reassurance in the form of things or people she can trust, both of which are few and far between. One thing she can always count on is the silver antique compact that she carries around with her. Although the compact itself is cracked, the mirror inside it is flawless. and provides her with some sense of reassurance.
Due to the strong front she presents in public, Adelaide has a problem with people questioning her. She has a tendency to hold grudges and fight against authority. Around her girls, she walks a fine line between allowing them their freedom and projecting an image of authority for them. She knows that if she doesn’t keep the balance, she risks losing her girls so most of her days are spent going back and forth between the two.
Constants:
The Evil Queen
Envious - Every day, Adelaide sees something she doesn't have. It's easy to become jealous when all you have is a shabby, run down apartment that you share with multiple other girls. She strives to be the girl with it all; the best hair, the fanciest clothes, the prettiest face, and yet she is unable to obtain those things.
Master of Disguise - Adelaide can blend in with the best of them. She has a small collection of hats, gloves, and scarves to cover up her features. Anonymity allows her the freedom to do whatever she pleases, go wherever she pleases, and plan whatever she pleases.
Manipulative - Adelaide is a con artist at best. Faking interest in people is something that comes easily for her and something she does well. Like a chain reaction, she uses that ability to gain the trust of others, then uses that trust to advance her own motives whenever possible.
City History:
Adelaide doesn't remember much of her past. For her, it's like trying to look inside a snow-globe. There are bits and pieces she remembers, but most of it is in a haze and she doesn't care enough to sort through the pieces and find out the exact happenings.
Adelaide doesn't remember having a family. She knows she must have, she knows how the world works, but she doesn't remember a mother, father, or any siblings. Her memories start to get most potent when she thinks about to around eleven. She remembers running away from the orphanage, but not how she got there in the first place. She doesn’t remember that her mother died just after she was born and her father was not so keen on raising a child at all, let alone by himself. She does remember having a problem with the authority at the orphanage and that being the reason she left in the first place. They kept trying to tell her what to do, when to go to sleep, what to eat, how to act, and Adelaide was having none of it.
She survived out on the streets fairly well for the first few years she was there, but she wasn’t thriving. She didn’t start thriving until she found her niche in the city, so to speak. She first thought of becoming a leader when the first of her girls came to her like a lost puppy; looking for food, protection, and shelter. The girl, Daisy, was a slip of a girl at best and Adelaide had just lifted a loaf of bread, some fruit, and the find of the day, a dried salami, from a nearby market. Adelaide at first hadn’t wanted to share, but the more she looked at Daisy, the more she realized that little Daisy was more like herself than Adelaide had first thought. In that instant, she needed to see that Daisy was fit and taken care of. Not to mention it was starting to get lonely on the streets by herself and Daisy tagging along, doing everything she could to impress Adelaide certainly didn’t make that worse. . Adelaide was able to provide two out of the three necessities, but as more girls came along and filled in the spaces of Adelaide’s growing gang, shelter became increasingly necessary.
Morale was important and providing her girls with a space to call their very own, a home for them, was one of the most important things she’d done yet. She was lucky to find an abandoned studio in Little Haven. Sure, it was in a hole in the wall and yeah, they had to deal with rats and bugs and cold, but they were safe from the elements. Over time, the girls concocted a plan. They’d dirty up the outside of the building as much as possible; throw trash, debris, anything they could get their hands on outside of it, but salvage furniture, clothing, and useful items inside. The trashier it looked on the outside, the less chance there was for someone to stumble along and take their home from them. The same studio is still where she lives with the gang, even as more girls join them.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Adelaide is a good pick-pocket and can handle herself in a fight. She’s fond of creating makeshift knives out of whatever she can get on the streets and either distributing them to her girls or keeping the best of them for herself.
Weaknesses:
Holds grudges- Once you’ve wronged Adelaide, she’s not likely to forgive. She’s even less likely to forget.
Clashes - Adelaide has a problem with authority. In her mind, her word is the only one that matters. Police officers, adults, other rough-and-tumble street gang leaders? They're all on her list and none of them have gone unnoticed by her.
Trust issues - She has her guard up most all the time. Although it’s easy for her to engage and try to gain others’ trust, trying to gain her trust is usually a fruitless, futile effort.
Asthma - Adelaide and physical exercise have undoubtedly crossed passed. As a girl on the streets, she’s had to run before. She spends more time outside than she really should. She breathes in things that she probably shouldn’t be. All of this combined have made it hard for Adelaide to stay ‘healthy’. She doesn’t know what to call it, but sometimes when she runs, it’s hard to breath. She coughs a lot and more than once she’s found herself in a not-so-nice situation because she couldn’t get away fast enough.
Strengths:
Leader- She's got the charisma of a natural leader. She can promise you stability, a group that has your back, shelter, and food. All you have to do in return is not question her.
Adaptability- Living on the streets means one of two things. You either survive or you die. In order to survive, you must be adaptable. Adelaide has mastered the skill of adapting to different situations. It’s a skill she attempts to teach her girls as well.
