Character Profile
Name: Shoshannah "Shannah" Hagel
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Type: Aspect
Appearance:
Shoshannah is relatively petite. She stands at 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs in at an acceptable 115 pounds. Shoshannah is graced with a head of thick, dark hair and hazel eyes. She is often found with a smile on her face, but more often found within the peaceful confines of sleep. She also has minor scratches and scaring on her arms due to her clumsiness, the worst of which is a deep scar on the inside of her right pointer finger.
Personality:
Shoshannah is an optimistic, cheerful, and generally happy person, until she falls asleep. Due to her unusual condition, Shoshannah has the potential to completely fall asleep mid-action, no matter what that action is. Because of this, she is viewed as odd, lazy, and ungrateful by her mother, but unique and interesting by her father (possibly because of his interest in the medical field in general) but she is working hard to change that perception of herself. She tries not to tell people she has a disorder and instead makes up excuses for why she sleeps so often.
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Constants:
-Type
Fairytale (Sleeping Beauty)
Constants:
-Inspires Lethargy
She began to recognize this at the age of 12. When she watched her mother in other rooms, she seemed fine. Energetic and lively. But whenever her mother came close to her, Shoshannah could see an instant drop in her productivity. As she grew older, the laziness she inspired in others started coming in swifter strides. Unsure of why this happens, Shoshannah writes it off as 'just one of those things', but she has vowed to herself to keep her eyes open for those who can defy the laziness she seems to spread out around her.
-Oppressive Female Figure
For a reason Shoshannah has never figured out, Elinor Hagel always seemed set against her middle daughter. She assumes it started when Shoshannah adopted this 'unfortunate habit of sleeping the day away when she should be doing productive things'. No matter how hard she tries to reason with her mother that her condition is not something she has control over, Elinor simply believes her daughter completely lazy.
Her mother is dying to get her out of the house. If Shoshannah had a nickel for every time her mother had a chat with her about how ungrateful she was, she'd be a very rich girl. This also stems from her 'incessant laziness'. If only Shoshannah could get herself together, find a nice Jewish boy, and start a family like her older sister, then maybe Elinor wouldn't have it out for her. But even then, Shoshannah isn't so sure that this will satisfy her mother. She's grown accustomed to disappointing the woman no matter what she does.
-Narcolepsy
Shannah is often plagued by fits of uncontrolled sleep. A very inconvenient problem, Shoshannah has and will continue to fall asleep at the worst times. Generally these fits last up to a half hour, but can be so long as a few days at a time. When she was younger, she spent complete weeks in bed, waking in only a zombie-like state when it was necessary. She's tried coffee, she's tried exercise, she's tried everything a girl could think of any more to wake herself up and function normally, but nothing seems to work. One of the most awkward places she has fallen asleep was her bat mitzvah. Her mother is still unreasonably angry at her for that.
City History:
Shoshannah is the middle daughter of Elinor and Bartholomew Hagel, the chief of medicine at Eidolon General. Because Bartholomew had the means to keep his family safe, he provided the best that he could for them. assuring Shannah a protected, sheltered life in a city where that was more a commodity than anything else.
However, Shoshannah remembers being alone most of her life. Technically, she doesn't remember much of her childhood because she slept through most of it, but she knows she was not as close to her sisters as she wishes she was and that her mother is more easily annoyed with her than anything else. She adores her father and always has, although he is not above sometimes treating her like a medical subject due to her puzzling ailment.
Due to her narcolepsy, Shoshannah didn't attend public school like her sisters. She was provided with a tutor who would visit her three times a week, which she hated her tutoring sessions. It was difficult for her to pay attention to her tutor and even more difficult to catch up on what she missed when her narcolepsy started to rule her young life. She found her knowledge in other, more interesting ways, mostly in books of fiction written about fabulous characters that didn't fall. asleep. all. the. time. There was always one constant in her life, though, in the form of The Echo.
The one true aspiration Shannah had as a child was to become a photographer for the Echo. Because she often would fall asleep for days at a time when she was younger, she missed important goings-on in the city and fell back on the newspaper as her source of information. Recently, she's been lucky enough to gain some freelance photography work for the Echo and has spread her time equally between running the Sea and Sky Gallery of Fine Arts in Little Haven and photography jobs from The Echo.

Due to her narcolepsy, Shoshannah didn't attend public school like her sisters. She was provided with a tutor who would visit her three times a week. During long sessions of boring material, Shoshannah honed her ability to completely lose focus. Sometimes it was fake, more often the lack of focus was real. Either way, she hated her tutoring sessions. She found her knowledge in other ways, mostly in books of fiction written about fabulous characters that didn't fall. asleep. all. the. time.

Her mother would like nothing more than for her to focus on finding a Jewish boy and settling down to have as many children as possible, but Shoshannah has bigger plans for herself. Boys are not off the menu, of course not, but ask her what her passion is and you'll get photography as an answer. Besides, Shoshannah is secretly worried that if she were to have children, she would pass on this odd characteristic of hers to them and she does not want a child to be burdened with narcolepsy like she is.
Special Skills and Abilities:
-Photography
For her fourteenth birthday, her father gifted her a beautiful, state-of-the-art Argus camera. Unluckily for her, it was stolen, but replaced by another camera bought for her by Angelo. She takes pictures of anything and everything she can and has an extensive portfolio of all the pictures she's taken from the start of her obsession with photography. As a young girl, Shoshannah relied on the newspapers and their photographs as constants in her life. Even if she slept a whole week, she could know exactly what happened each day thanks to the vigilance of The Echo.
Weaknesses:
-Accident Prone
Possibly because of her narcolepsy and lack of focus, Shoshannah is clumsy. She rarely pays attention to what she is doing and because of that has a variety of small flesh wounds to show off, the worst of which is a discolored, deep scar on her right index finger that she received at the age of 16.
-Sheltered
The Hagel family, while not exactly prominent in the area, live a privileged life. With her father as the chief of medicine at their local hospital, Shoshannah has had the means to be provided for for her entire young adult life and thus, her father happily did so to keep her out of trouble. Shoshannah was unable to date until the age of 18, and even then it was only with people her parents specifically set her up with. She hates the naivety she's been labeled with, but she is working to dispel the label and learns a little more about 'street smarts' as each day goes by.
-Curiosity
Possibly because of the sheltered life she lives, Shoshannah has a tendency to become fully encompassed in something very easily. And because of her ailment, she also has a tendency to drop those interests very easily. In the past, she has taken up studying French, painting, taking singing lessons, amateur match-making, and trying to master her mother's recipe book...all of which she dropped as a hobby no more than a week later. However, because of her need to experience new things, Shoshannah has the potential to gravitate toward dangerous situations.
-Trust
Shoshannah has the misfortune of trusting in others too easily. She trusts them not to take advantage of her if she falls asleep in the middle of a conversation. She trusts them not to hurt her. She trusts them with her address. She basically just trusts way too much. She likes to believe the good in people and if everyone has some good in them, there's no reason she should be worried by what they may or may not do. Even though she's been robbed in the city before, she still harbors a basic trust in others.
Strengths:
-Optimistic
Shoshannah is a dreamer. She attributes this to being fairly inactive most of her childhood, thus dreaming up big plans out of sheer boredom and necessity. She never got a chance to really explore the dark sides of the city until now and so she doesn't know much about the happenings in it except for what she reads in the papers. Shannah believes that each story has a good and bad side. She wishes to report on the good sides so she holds out hope that she will someday get the chance to prove there's a good heart somewhere in the city of Eidolon.
-Charisma
For all of her misgivings, Shannah has a way with people (especially when she first meets them). Maybe it's her bright smile, maybe it's her happy demeanor, maybe it's her wit. Whatever it is, it seems to be working. She enjoys talking to people, often times about nothing in particular, and can usually get away with a good conversation as long as her pesky habit of falling asleep on them doesn't kick in. Once that happens, people tend to see her as rude but she will use her charms to try and win them back again.
-Genuine
Shoshannah means what she says and generally, she says nice things about people. She'd always been told that an ugly thought produces an ugly lady and often wonders how her mother turned out so beautiful when she talks so badly about other people. Shoshannah does her best to find something nice in each situation. If nothing can be found, she'll rely on the hope that tomorrow will be another day with new situations.
