Character Profile

Name: Roy Edison Grady (is more used to Grady these days than Roy)

Age: 23

Gender: male

Type: Dreamer

Appearance:

Not one who seems that imposing at first glance, he's about 5'8". He's got a mop of wavy hair these days that tends to hang in his eyes when he doesn't do much with it, and half the time he keeps it that way for a reason. His clothes are usually purchased from second hand stores, even if he likely has the money to get better. He always wears his dogtags and army jacket, though the medals he's got stay home.

One of the more prominent things about Roy is that he's got a bit of a broken look to him. It's not something he goes for, and he wouldn't appreciate it if it was pointed out to him, but when he's upset about something, he looks utterly shattered by it. It's something that occasionally garners him sympathy, even if he isn't aware of that. He's got a few scars picked up from combat, the largest of which is actually the surgical scar on his chest.

Personality:

Roy is an observant sort of fellow. He's very polite and respectful to people, something instilled in him when he was younger, and the military really didn't beat that out of him in any manner. If anything it might have solidified it further. He's the kind of guy who tries to be nice to those around him, a sort of gentleish nature that definitely goes against the fact that he's a good soldier. And he is that--he's a very good soldier. What it means is that when he has to, he can snap into a different mode, a 'do not fuck with me' mode. He's a protective kind of guy, and tries to look out for people if he thinks they need it. After all, people did it for him, his brothers in arms all took care of him, watched his back. He sort of doesn't quite know how to get on anymore without that in his life, therefore he looks for it.

He can come off as shy sometimes, and is a good listener. He's got a genuine interest in the people around him, and still believes in the cause he went to war for in the first place. He's very patriotic, and self sacrificing.

His new outlook on life is to live for the time he's got left, however long that might be. So it means that he'll take risks he might not otherwise have taken, and he really does look for things to either drive him or make him smile. He's up for new experiences, and that might not always be fluffy bunny ones, or positive for him.

Sexuality:

hetero

City History:

Considering his family was kind of going down in flames, Roy took off fairly young to join the army. No one was looking all that closely at anyone volunteering, and therefore he got in. When they started talking about a unit that was going to be comprised entirely of nutters willing to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, he signed up. Not because he had a death wish--but because the pay was better. His family had really gone down the tubes due to lack of cash flow, and so he wanted to make as much as he could manage while over there, for as long as he could.

He didn't do badly. He took to his unit well enough, he managed to work up the kind of balls it took to jump out of a fucking airplane in a warzone, and once he was down in the thick of it, he was an asset to his unit because he could shoot, and well. It wasn't a skill he'd had beforehand, it just happened to be something he found out he was naturally good at. So, he worked at it, and was, in fact, damn good. But it was still a messy war. It was still him with a bunch of people he jumped with, that were scattered all over hells half acre, and a lot of them he never saw again. He stuck with his company as long as he could, though during an extended battle, he was shot a few times. The only reason he survived at all was their medic kept him just stable enough to get to a proper doctor. There he had surgery to remove the bullets they could, one of which was lodged in his chest. He's been told more than enough times that he likely should have died, and technically still could.

He would have wanted to stay there, but he got sent home. Physically he wasn't up to par, and he's been informed that some of the bullet fragments were too close to his heart to remove without endangering him further. So, they're still there. Apparently they could one day kill him, if they move wrong, dislodge, any number of things. He's okay for now, but he's kind of a walking timebomb and he doesn't know when the timer will go off.

Since getting back to town, he's been drifting a little, spending a lot of time at the cathedral, and sort of doing odd jobs for people here and there. He just hasn't quite figured out what direction to take his life these days, and isn't feeling even close to a real answer on that.

What it means is he's starting to adopt an ideal to follow of 'live for today' because who knows when he'll actually kick off. He's got the money he earned from fighting overseas for two years, and he isn't quite sure what to do with it yet. He's sort of hoping something interesting will occur.

Special Skills and Abilities:

sharpshooter/sniper, basic handyman skills

Weaknesses:

shell shock - while he doesn't have it nearly as bad as some people, he does have violent nightmares, and certain sounds and the like will trigger episodes, which mean he's reacting to a situation he's no longer in. this generally doesn't bode well.

causes - the guy went to war. he voluntarily signed up for it. he believes in things, and he believes deeply, to the point where he is willing to put whatever he has to on the line for the ideal. he's bound to find another cause sometime, he's prone to it, searches for it. when he doesn't have one, it leaves him feeling like he's missing something in his life and makes him restless. the military was good for him. he sort of doesn't know what to do with himself now that he doesn't have it.

money - he's got it now even if he never had it growing up, and while he isn't fantastically rich, he's got a better chunk of change than a lot of people do. he just doesn't know what to do with it. he doesn't really know how to be well off. he still hasn't figured that out, but it does make him vulnerable for people to try and get it out of him, in one way or another.

imminent death syndrome - well, bullet fragments near the heart aren't a good thing. he's got shrapnel in other places as well, not that they're nearly so potentially fatal. he does get chest pains now and then, and sometimes they're fairly debilitating. but yeah. technically, he could possibly drop dead at any given moment.

Strengths:

fearless - well, after going through a war, and being told he was now residing at death's door, what the hell is there to be afraid of?

fixing things - he's pretty good at fixing what's broken, ie general household stuffs, machinery, etc.

Family or Connections:

The Grady Clan, specifically his sister Marian--the only family member who wrote him when he was overseas.

Residence:

staying at the sunny shores til he figures that bit out

Career:

ex-soldier (82nd Airborne, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, [Sergeant First Class] Technical Sergeant), handyman

PB: Kyle Gallner

Other Information:

He frequents the cathedral, going to mass on sundays, and often doing work around the place when it needs it. He also will do repairs for people who ask him to, on a one on one basis.

He still has his rifle, named 'Amelie' after a nurse in France who helped his unit out when they were in the country. He's got a photograph of her in his bible. He had been working on a pretty serious crush before he got sent home, though never learned her last name, nor does he have a way to contact her.

He carries at all times on his person his sidearm, since carrying a rifle never goes over as well as you'd think.

The mobs are both interested in him at least in passing, due to his abilities with a rifle. Neither has approached him yet.
