Character Profile
Name: Tatiana 'Tatia' Yuryevna Nabokova
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Type: Aspect
Appearance:
Tatiana is the type of woman who draws every eye in the room when she walks in. Standing at a statuesque 5’10”, she towers above most women even without heels. It used to be something that as a child bothered her but now she has the maturity and presence to command it and own it. She gets the height from her father, who was a tall man, but her mother isn’t exactly a tiny sapling either.
Her copper colored hair is long, curling around her shoulders that she wears in a variety of ways. Usually down but has been known to pull her hair back in complicated up-sweeps for the right occasion. Paired with piercing blue eyes framed with thick, dark lashes and alabaster skin, Tatiana all around presents what she likes to call ‘a portrait of Venus’.
Unlike her mother’s black wardrobe, Tatia wears a variety of different colors to highlight her assets. They’re all well made, the perfect cut to accentuate her willowy figure. She doesn’t normally wear heels, or when she does, they tend to be lower. Towering over men is never a good idea. She doesn’t need much make-up but is always wearing just enough to highlight her eyes and bone structure.
Her father’s recent passing however has signaled a period of mourning, where she wears a variety of blacks and greys that only highlight the paleness of her, making her look like a fiery ghost.
Personality:
Tatia is the definition of Princess Complex. Spoiled, entitled, Tatiana feels that she deserves to get everything she wants. That people should be at her beck and call, that she is the superior one and anyone else be damned if they stand in the way of what she wants. She has certainly been the type to throw her weight around, the one who says ‘Do you know who my father is?’ to get better service or the discount or whatever it is her eyes have set on at that moment.
It doesn’t mean though, that Tatiana is dumb or unintelligent. Far from it. The shallow, self-absorbed exterior does wonders hiding a sharp mind, cultivated by her mother, Olesya. She may not pick up on things when someone is manipulating her in terms of feeding her ego, but she’s one for intelligent conversation and camaraderie, sometimes something she feels she can only find with her mother.
Intelligent and bitchy makes for a dangerous combination and when wronged, Tatia is a force to be reckoned with.
Sexuality:
Straight
Constants:
Whose the Fairest of Them All?
Green Is Not a Good Color: Everyone has some degree of envy in them, one way or another. Some are just better at concealing it than others, but with Tatiana around, however, even the strongest people are weakened to it. Her presence always makes for interesting interactions when something wanted is at stake.
She’s Alive!: Tatiana was never one who thought about her mortality but upon reflection, she’s had lots of very ‘near misses’. When she was born, she almost died, she was a bit of an accident prone toddler. She’s nearly drowned, she’s nearly been hit by cars, and she was one of the people at Fontaine Park when Eric Marten’s rained metal pipes from the sky. Through all this, she’s somehow managed to survive. It’s not clear if her luck will run out and Tatia isn’t thinking about it.
How About an Apple, Dearie?: Temptation is something woven so deeply into Tatiana that it’s just become a part of her and it has manifested itself in two ways. The first is that, well, Tatia is beautiful. She’s gorgeous and engaging and sure she might be a bit of a brat but when she smiles that coy smile and tosses her hair over her shoulder, men just fall for it. It isn’t until they take hold of her they find out she’s more than they bargained for. She’s not a bauble for an arm or a one night stand. She’s baggage. She’s high maintenance. Not only that but if you aren’t treading lightly around her, she’s connected to a group of very dangerous people.
In other ways, Tatiana is the one reaching for that poisoned apple herself. She wants it all and when she has something she wants, good sense tends to be ignored and she doesn’t think about the fallout. All that matters is what she wants, be it an object or a person, or whatever it is. It hasn’t burned her yet but it will eventually.
City History:
Tatiana is the first and only child of Olesya and Yuri Nabokov. Born when Olesya was rather young, her introduction to the world could be considered a portent for what her life was to bring. After a difficult birth where Olesya almost died, many thought that Tatiana was born still born, the little infant silent and still and blue for those first moments before she awoke. After doctors advised her parents to not try for any more children, Tatiana was doted upon and lavished with gifts and attention in what was a very loving nuclear family.
While a well behaved albeit spoiled child, Tatia has had many near misses growing up from almost being hit by a car to nearly drowning. One particular incident was especially deadly. In her fifth school year, Tatiana’s teacher, paid off by one of her father’s rivals, poisoned the ten year old. It should’ve killed her but somehow Tatiana survived the incident. She was hospitalized for weeks at death’s door until she finally recovered enough to be sent home. After that, her parents were terrified and Tatiana was schooled at home by her mother.
Assassination attempts aside, life in Russia was by far more comfortable than many others. Tatia had her parents and finishing class, lessons on how to interact with polite society. Like mother like daughter, Tatia took her role in life in stride, immersing herself in the latest fashions and gossip, making friends with all the people she was meant to and developed a reputation for being a force to be reckoned with. She was certainly not afraid to tout her family name to get what she needed and open the doors that she wanted to get behind.
Moving to America when she was seventeen was difficult, having grown up in a completely different company and the elite of Eidolon City was vastly different. She was taught to speak English at a young age, but self conscious of her accent, she practiced hard to try get rid of as much of it as she could, which meant that Tatia spent a lot of time listening, nervous to speak and say the wrong thing. There was a lot riding on her shoulders after all. She was the girl who would grow with the society members and be a kind of anchor into the rest of the city. So initially everyone thought that Tatia was a quiet, sweet girl. It wasn’t until she grew comfortable and confident enough in her English that the idea there was shattered for some people. Nervousness gone, the naturally bitchy girl came out to play. Her accent still comes out at times, on certain words or when she’s incredibly emotional.
Still, there were it’s downsides. Surrounded by waif-like creatures, redheaded Tatiana already stood out but after hitting puberty and sprouting up so she was a good six inches taller than all her peers had her working hard to fight back against the vicious teasing that’s commonplace among society. She came out the other side a new woman -- one who was confident in her looks and who she was and that no one could pull down.
That was party in due to an unlikely acquaintanceship struck up with Alexi Cusik, the son of a fellow Syndicate heavyweight whom she ran into one evening shortly before graduation. He was enamoured by her and she took the ego feeding like manna however the two of them, both depressed at their lots in life (he small for his age, she too tall for one and her stilted, heavily accented english), the two of them shared a tryst that, while never repeated, was the start of an odd sort of alliance that was mutually beneficial. Alexi would not tell her secrets, she would let him bask in her company and she would have someone to feed her ego. So far it’s worked for both of them.
March 26th was the day that Tatiana’s world crashed. She awoke that morning to the news that her father, her beloved and dear father had been murdered the previous night. While no one shared the details with her, her own snooping and eavesdropping showed her the grim truth and while she goes about her daily life like normal (besides the mourning clothing she wears), inside she’s damaged and frightened, not knowing why her father was killed and if her and her mother are next.
After her father’s death, things naturally changed but the changes were unexpected. Before Tatia knew it, her and her mother were moving from the comfortable town house to the old casino which was hard at work being brought back to its former glory. At first Tatia was incredulous. Sure, she knew how to play cards and was good at it but opening a casino? Well, her mother had a vision and no one got into Olesya’s way when she had a mission.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Second Language: Tatia is very fluent in Russian, having grown up in Russia. Still her English is flawless, with only hint of accents on certain words
Card Sharp: Cards were always part of Tatia’s life, from Bridge to the various other forms of poker and she can certainly hold her own with some of the best of them, although she really doesn’t have the interest to.
Weaknesses:
Mother: It isn’t that Tatia dislikes her mother or resents her. Far from it. There’s a lot of love there. But her mother is an Iron Woman and while Tatia is an adult, she is still under her mother’s rule so to speak.
Also, being the only parent she has left, Tatia is somewhat clingy, especially in the wake of her father’s death. It means that if you ever needed to get Tatiana to do something for you, her mother is the way to do it. Also, if someone insults her mother or insinuate that Olesya is off her rocker, they will have Tatiana’s wrath to deal with.
Princess Complex: Entitled, bratty, high maintenance. Tatia is that nightmare girlfriend or friend that no one really wants to have, which means that she doesn’t have many true friends, let alone a steady boyfriend. It also does a very good job of hiding the fact that Tatia is rather sharp cookie and rarely will people take her opinions seriously.
Something More: It’s not that she isn’t happy. She is pretty satisfied with her life, but it doesn’t mean she wants something more. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to be deep like the ocean and maybe a few inches shorter. Tatia wants something more in life than where she is, but the idea of growing as a person is vastly unappealing so she’s stuck where she is
Grieving: Their once happy little family is now shattered with the grisly murder of Yuri and Tatia sometimes feels like she’s walking through a haze. She’s more prone to clingy-ness and sometimes inconsolable. She was a daddy’s girl through and through and now that he’s gone, she feels frightened that her and her mother might be next. Thoughts about it tend to plague her dreams, thus resulting in many sleepless nights these past few weeks. It makes her even more afraid of losing her mother, and makes her more susceptible to any of Olesya’s wishes.
Leverage: Being an only child, Tatia was used to having extra eyes on her making sure she was okay. That was always a fact of life and she’s never actually thought about it. But the thing is that if anyone wanted to get to Olesya, all they’d have to do is get Tatia. She’s the highest form of leverage.
Ooh Shiny: When there’s something that Tatia wants, she focuses on that. The idea that it could be a bad idea to open that door or try steal someone else’s boyfriend or rip a necklace off of someone doesn’t really occur to her. It’s how she ended up in bed with Alexi Cusik for one. For such a smart girl, her logical mind takes a backseat much of the time.
Jeopardy Friendly: For the record, she isn’t walking out blindly into the middle of the street, she isn’t mistaking drain cleaner for something nice to drink and she isn’t playing Russian Roulette for kicks. Being the only child of a prominent mobster and now a very wealthy, powerful woman makes her a magnet for kidnapping attempts, poisoning, and car bombs. This means that her mother has a security detail for her – a trusty bodyguard named Kiev who has the patience of the saints for what he has to put up with. She’s very lucky, having survived an assassination attempt when she was a child and falling down the steps hasn’t broken her neck yet. It may be only a matter of time though before her luck runs out.
Strengths:
Syndicate and All That Comes With It: She’s got a name and she’s not afraid to use it and if anything ever happened to her, there’s a host of ne’er do wells who will take action in her defense.
Strong Female Figure: While playing the traditional female role in society, Tatiana is not ignorant to the power a woman can wield and how one can go about doing it. She has a strong role model in her mother, one who she can go to for advice and one who she would like nothing more than to emulate.
Don’t Mess With Her: While she’s not quite far from being the damsel in distress, anyone who tries to get touchy with her or attempt anything will find themselves flat on the floor. Her father and Alexi both taught her how to throw a punch, her father not believing in leaving his daughter wholly defenseless. She knows just enough to catch someone off guard and give her time to get away.
