Character Profile
Name: Antoinette 'Toni' Louise Regent
Age: 21
Gender: female
Type: Aspect
Appearance:
With striking blue grey eyes and dark wavy hair that when not tied up falls halfway down her back, Antoinette, like her twin, is a striking young woman though she rarely dresses to show off that fact. Nor does she make an effort to conceal just how underweight she is, a perpetual state of being for the twins ever since their years living on the streets that shows no sign of improving. The only time she makes an effort with her appearance is when she and her twin are on a job, either dressed exactly to match or to play a part though for Antoinette this only goes as far as clothes - Annaliese is the actress of the pair. Usually, she just pulls on the nearest clothes that aren’t too dirty which, given the wide array of clothes they’ve collected over the years, can often result in a pretty interesting get-up.
Her mannerisms are eerily similar to Annaliese’s even when they aren’t pretending to be each other though one that is particular to her and only copied by her sister is a compulsive wringing of her hands and when the two are together it becomes clear that Antoinette tends to avoid making eye contact with people. She is also far more clumsy than Annaliese, only really keeping herself in check when mimicking her sister.
Personality:
Antoinette is very much the spice to her sister’s sugar, possessing very little of her sister’s innate sweetness and while it would be unfair to describe her as a bad person, she is fractious, stubborn and often difficult to deal with. She doesn’t go out of her way to be horrible to people but she has little time for people that don’t interest in her in someway and lacks empathy, often coming across as rude or insensitive with her habit of saying exactly what’s on her mind without considering the impact they might have.
While she can be very animated and incredibly articulate, there is an odd almost chaotic quality to it that can be off-putting and dogged by bouts of extreme introversion , it is difficult to predict her behaviour. She is also quite antagonistic, albeit not intentionally, tending to rub people up the wrong way and rarely understands the negative impact she has on people.
Definitely the smarter of the two girls, Antoinette is also the one most grounded in reality and when there is something that needs figuring out or a plan needs creating, she is the one to do it.
Sexuality:
asexual
Constants:
~The Red Queen~
All ways are the queen’s way - Antoinette has the overwhelming conviction that she always knows the right answer, that her way of thinking about things is the right way and her opinions are the only ones worth having. She can accept other people might disagree with her but in her eyes that just makes them wrong,
When you've once said a thing, that fixes it, and you must take the consequences - There are no second chances with Antoinette, once something is said or done it cannot be taken back and she will remember, for better or worse.
It was the black kitten's fault entirely - Of the two sisters, Antoinette is the troublesome one of the pair, more prone to misbehaving and tantrums as a child and as they’ve gotten older frequently getting into arguments and even the occasional fight. If the twins get into trouble, you can bet dollars to dimes that Antoinette is the source of it.
City History:
There was nothing noteworthy about Antoinette growing up aside from the incredibly close relationship she had with her twin, one that has only strengthened as they’ve gotten older. Their childhood was a happy one despite the Regents not having much money, the family business always precariously close to going bankrupt.
Despite his best efforts, the girls father eventually had to get a loan just to keep the business afloat and Antoinette has a clear memories of the argument their parents had about it, sat at the top of the stairs in her nightgown with Annaliese at her side, listening to their father yell and their mother cry. For a while things seemed like they might have gotten better but then strange men started to come to the house at night, big men who would shout and break things refusing to leave until they’d been given money or something else of worth. She remembers watching as their home slowly lost everything that seemed to shine, slipped into the bags or pockets of men she quickly grew to hate.
She doesn’t know when exactly it was that the business was burnt down, that their parents had disappeared only that it was near their thirteenth birthday and that there was snow on the ground, the cold not hampering the blaze in the slightest. With everything that was familiar gone, the two siblings packed up what they could and took the streets, adamant not be taken in by the state and dumped in the orphanage. Between them they had the smarts to stay alive but were barely getting by until they met up with Adelaide and her gang, quickly proving their worth as both a pair and individuals. They stayed as part of the group for a few years but eventually it stopped working for them and having learnt everything they could from the other girls they set out on their own, though they made sure to keep the connection with Adelaide and the others.
With their combined talents, they found they had a flair for small cons and digging dirt, the latter of which caught the attention of the Syndicate. They were willing to overlook the twins working their little jobs on the condition they came and worked for them. Now that’s what they do, running espionage for the Syndicate whenever it’s needed, the jobs that need more finesse and subtlety. They’re also sources for the Echo, not that anyone would be able to identify them as such, selling the rag stories and information which has proved to be a sound way for the pair to earn extra cash.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Mimicry - Antoinette doesn’t have the acting skills of her sister except in one area; she can play the part of Annaliese perfectly and it is the only time where she appears ‘normal.’
Weaknesses:
Missing Something - A lifetime spent with her sister has meant that there are aspects of Antoinette’s personality that she has never needed to develop; wherever she fulls short Annaliese takes up the slack and she in turn does the same for her. All the time they are together this isn’t a problem, each twin complimenting the other and compensating for what the other lacks, but when they are apart it is glaringly obvious that Antoinette isn’t playing with a full deck. There are some things that are completely beyond her comprehension, things that a girl of her age should be able to manage and deal with and she is simply unable to alone.
Don’t Touch Me - Aside from her sister, Antoinette has a strong aversion to people getting physically close to her and gets visibly uncomfortable when anyone invades her personal space. If someone actually touches her at best she will flinch and move away, at worst she can get violent.
No People Skills - In this more than anything else, Antoinette is the polar opposite of her twin. While sharing Annaliese’s sharp eye for body language, she doesn’t understand what it means and when it comes to picking up subtle differences in tone or wording, she fails entirely. Sarcasm is lost on her completely and social niceties go straight over her head.
Over Confident (of she and Anna) - It pertains to the both of them. Like her sister, Antoinette believes that when they are together there is nothing they can’t handle. She is adamant that whatever the world throws at them, they will be able to handle it, regardless of what the reality of what they’re able to do might be.
Fixated - When something particularly catches Antoinette’s attention, she becomes obsessive about learning as much about it as she can and committing it to memory, often resorting to stealing books from the library in order to better understand a subject and will talk at great lengths about them to other people, regardless of whether or not they’re interested.
Strengths:
Smart - As well as being able to read and write and knowing her numbers, Antoinette loves books and has an excellent memory and so over the years she has built up an wide range of knowledge on various topics that she can draw from at any time.
Common Sense - The pragmatist to Annaliese’s dreamer, Antoinette is able to assess a situation, process the facts and come up with the most logical solution.
Family or Connections:
Twin - Annaliese
Syndicate Ties - Alexi & Nate
Residence:
A couple of rooms in the east wing of the Alexandria library.
Career:
Dirt digging, intelligence gathering and espionage for the syndicate / Anonymous source for the Echo.
PB: Darla Baker
Other Information:
While it wouldn’t be recognized as such at the time, Antoinette has a clear case of Aspergers syndrome which is the root of many of her difficulties in dealing with the world.
