Character Profile

Name: Maximilieno 'Max' Antonio Falconeri (née DiGiovanni)

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Type: Aspect

Appearance:

Max stands at an average, even six foot, but has a presence that seems to make him seem bigger than he is. He has slightly shaggy but well kept black hair and very bright, piercing blue eyes and a devil-may-care grin.

He dresses nice but definitely casual. Dark slacks, an untucked dress shirt and a suit vest with a fedora is his causal look that he's often seen in. When he's on the job however, jeans and dark colored shirts are the way to go, not just for the ease that dark shirts hide the blood easier, but because he is a different person when he's 'at work'. There is the Max that interacts with other people. The well-kept, not entirely intimidating man. Then there's the Max that has no problem making you smile with a knife.

Personality:

The persona that Max has found works best is that of the devilishly charming 'bad boy'. The undercurrent of arrogance, the devil-may-care attitude, coupled with the friendly way he'll talk to you. It's very textbook in its execution and what keeps it from working with everyone is the fact that there's something 'missing'. It's not something one can put their finger on because everything comes off genuine and real. But after talking with him (or sometimes even during), there's just that niggling sense of missing something.

The real Max is someone much less than the standard 'bad boy'. That thing that's missing is the fact that Max feels. That he cares. He doesn't feel emotion, but he's been able to come to understand and mimic to the best of his abilities. In fact, Max is someone who manipulates situations to his advantage. He plays with people. Human interactions for him are, for ninety-nine percent of the time, games. How well can he tug on the puppet strings and how well can he fool someone. His attachments to people are based on what they can do for him and what he can get out of it. Max also likes to exert control over people. It's part of the game he plays. He is the one who believes that he has the cards and he strings people along.

Max doesn't do well when left to his own devices. He needs a purpose, something to do. When he isn't given a purpose, Max tends to get too caught up in his own head and his thoughts start getting away from him. Which then leads him to doing things that put his comfortable life-style in danger.

Sexuality:

Asexual but shows attraction to women

Constants:

ASPECT - HERMES

The Messenger: It should be insulting that Max has gone from future head of the family to a messenger boy, but Max's job is far more intricate than just a human information service. His messages encompass multiple levels: He sends messages between family heads, checks up on various cells within the Family, checks up on informants and those who are indebted, and then there's the darker aspect. The one where someone has messed up so bad, that you want to make a statement. Max isn't just an ordinary hit man for the mob. He is the one you send when you want to send a message with the death. A statement that you do not, under any circumstances, mess with the DiGiovanni family.

Protector For a Price: It's common knowledge that if you can buy mob protection if you're willing to pay the price and Max is the one you have to go through in the end. You need to be in his good graces if you'd like your request to be passed on and protection doesn't always come easy. Also, with his special skill set, Max sometimes is dispatched to help the lower levels in taking care of difficult jobs. However those jobs don't come without a penalty.

Guide to the Underworld: Max was once going to be the head of the DiGiovanni family. He was going to lead their branch into a new generation and the grooming started early. The problem was though is that all that knowledge didn't go anywhere even though he was stripped of his inheritance. Max knows a lot more about the family and the inner workings than your average worker bee in the DiGiovanni crime family. So if you want to know something, Max is your guy. That doesn't mean he's going to tell you though.

City History:

There were a lot of hopes set on Max DiGiovanni when he was born. He was one who could inherit the name with pride. The new face of the DiGiovanni family to take the family in the new generation in this new world that was rapidly changing. Max was a quiet child, well behaved for the most part and things seemed to be going right on track.

But there was always something just a little 'off' about the oldest DiGiovanni son. No one was able to pinpoint what it was because nothing was glaringly wrong. He could read and write and talk and be a charming little boy but there were times when his behavior was odd. The questions he'd ask inappropriate for a boy his age. He should be worrying about growing up, not death, or anatomy, or why the maid cried when he accidentally ran over one of the puppies with his bike. Things came to a screeching halt, however, when, at age twelve, Max killed his teacher on the end of the school year picnic. His story was that the man had tried to corner him in the woods near the creek the children were playing at, and while the investigation was closed quickly, his behavior in the following weeks was a glaring enough signal that Max would not be inheriting the family name.

That summer, things changed. Custody was given to one of the cousins and he was whisked away from the house where hopefully he would no longer be able to corrupt his little sister and maybe he could be 'salvaged'. Max no longer attended school -- what had happened was too high profile and was subsequently provided with private tutoring and received an equivalent diploma. In addition to his traditional schooling, Max's darker nature slowly came out and was leashed before it could get out of control (although two people died before anyone realized that it was out of control). Plans and procedures were put in place as to how to best deal with Max and where he was the most useful.

For the past few years, Max has been working in his current capacity as the leading hit man for the DiGiovanni family and messenger. He has cultivated a brutal reputation among the higher ups in enforcers and while his name may not be talked about on the lower levels, he is someone that people fear and is the last person you want to see on your doorstep.

Special Skills and Abilities:

Assassin: Max's profession has lent itself to allowing Max to learn a multitude of different skills. He is excellent with lock-picking, using whatever is at his disposal as a weapon, fighting, torture (he's good at keeping a victim conscious for hours) and the best way to take someone out and dispose of the body. Max has had years to learn. He is in and has kept his position for a reason, and it isn't because of his name.

Max is incredibly adept at social manipulation. He has had to learn this skill at a young age so he would be able to interact with people. He also speaks fluent Italian as well as English. He does know a phrase or two in Russian and Chinese.

Weaknesses:

Mental - Max is a psychopath. The emotions that he shows such as sadness or happiness or concern are learned. He doesn't actually feel them. He does not actually care about things.

Morally Ambiguous - That inherent 'something' that's missing from Max makes him unpredictable. He'll say he'll do something, but you can't entirely be sure if he's going to do it.

Tight Leash - Because of how he gets when he's left to his own devices, the DiGiovanni keep Max under a watchful eye to make sure he doesn't stray. The lack of control there is incredibly frustrating to Max, but he can't exactly deal without the structure that's provided.

Manic Episodes - When Max isn't occupied with either his sister, a list of people to speak with, or a list of bodies to collect, he starts to lose his mind, so to speak. Being occupied keeps his thoughts organized and focused, but unchecked? Thoughts filter through his head at an unstoppable pace and he starts to become unhinged and violent. Which leads to...

Killer Without a Cause - When Max goes off on his own, there is no pin-point reason as to why he kills someone. At least not one that makes sense to the police. It could be because he didn't like the shirt that person was wearing, or they were the thirteenth person in line.

Arienne - While Max doesn't exactly process emotion like other people, he definitely has something that could be called a fondness for his little sister. While he doesn't jump to her defense when she receives any slight, emotionally or physically hurting Ari would result in extreme, dire consequences for the parties responsible.

Wings On His Feet - Max isn't someone who can sit still. He has to be doing something, from playing with a paddle ball to jiggling his leg while he sits. He passes it off as twitches with a sheepish duck of the head and a blush, but really, he just can't be still. He's always fiddling with something, or pacing, or just looking for something to physically occupy himself. Often, he's playing with a large coin and it helps some, especially if he has to play a part.

Triskaidekaphobia - Max and the number thirteen don't get along. He cannot have a single victim for his thirteenth kill. It must be two people and they both must die. Something he purchases cannot have thirteen items. If someone lives on the thirteenth floor or 'Thirteenth' street or house number thirteen, he's got to send someone else to take care of it. On the thirteenth day of each month, Max doesn't leave his place.

Reputation - People who know him and of his job are untrusting and afraid of him. This is mostly those of the higher levels of the mob who know exactly what his coming might entail, but the higher level 'enforcers' of the DiGiovanni Organization also know that Max? Is the one no one wants to fuck with.

Strengths:

DiGiovanni - Even though his last name is different, even though his parents are afraid of him, Max is *still* Max DiGiovanni, first born son. He also works for the family and even without his dangerous reputation, Max is still not someone to be messed with.

Reputation - On the flipside, Max's reputation means that people know that he's more than just some cast-off son. He's someone not to be trifled with and someone who should very much be feared and shown respect.
