Character Profile
Name: Charlie Edmund Danvers
Age: 25
Gender: male
Type: Dreamer
Appearance:
5’10”, Charlie’s got warm brown eyes and dark hair that most of the time he can’t quite keep in order. He’s got several tattoos, and is fairly well built, even if he isn’t overly muscled. Just enough that you don’t want to pick a fight with the guy. Clothing-wise, he doesn’t have a whole lot, and what he does have isn’t in the best repair. The fact that he’s a ‘have not’ in the city is pretty clear just by looking at him. Even so, he’s generally considered good looking, even if he doesn’t necessarily put a lot of effort in on that score on purpose.
Personality:
Charlie is a guy who’s demeanor tends to change with his moods. When he’s in a good mood, he can be open and friendly, sweet and courteous. Charlie can be downright charming, if he sets his mind to it. He can be very giving when he wants to be, and if in the right frame of mind, he can be very patient and accommodating. On the other hand, if he’s in a bad mood, it’s possible the world is a dark, sinking cesspool in his estimation, and that’ll taint everything. He tries not to fall into fits of depression, but sometimes it catches up with him.
Most of the time he’s merely very observant, but sometimes he’s a little paranoid as well. The cops continuing to come around and hassle him doesn’t help his paranoia, instead feeding into the idea that someone’s out to get him.
Charlie wants to be able to fit in with normal people. He wants to be a good guy, he wants to be able to handle things well, he wants to get a real job and do the kinds of things normal folks do. So one of the strongest character traits he’s got that shines through clearest is his desire to be a part of everything else. To belong, even if deep down he doesn’t really think he does. That eagerness is still there, though, still with him regardless of his mood.
Sexuality:
hetero
City History:
Charlie started out life not in such a great place. He was dropped at the orphanage early, after his father died and his mother couldn’t afford him or his siblings (an older brother and a younger sister) His older brother went his own way, and Charlie isn’t sure what became of him, and their little sister was adopted fairly quickly, and after seeing her once shortly afterwards (he went to check on her) he decided to let her go, as she was adopted into what seemed to him to be the perfect family.
The orphanage didn’t really do much for him. A friend he made there, Jason, ran away, and about six months later showed back up to tell him about a gang he’d joined, and he brought Charlie into the fold. That gang was headed up by Dodge. Charlie was a good addition, he was a pretty smart kid, he knew how to handle himself in a fight, and he took silly-well to criminalistic activities. He’s an accomplished pickpocket, knows how to break and enter very well, and can boost a car in record time when he needs to.
Things went okay for a while. Years, even. He didn’t take well to orders, which meant one of two things. Either he dropped out or he moved up. In his case, he moved up. He became one of Dodge’s right hand men, and stayed in that position, weighing in on decisions for the good of the whole for years. Then things took a nasty turn.
Nickel and dime little shit wasn’t holding up forever. When they got too old and such, they started getting in on bigger jobs. Bigger scores. Which meant heading into the territory of robbery, and bigger and bigger on that as well. In the end, it bit him in the ass. Things went sideways one night, and he was caught. It was dumb luck, really, he just happened to be the one closest to the door when the cops burst in, and everyone else got out while he was getting cuffed.
Considering the ‘caught red handed’ of it all, his conviction wasn’t a hard one to get. He was sentenced to five years, though only served two before he was let out on good behavior. Two years was long enough, however. That was really all he needed to know one thing--he never, ever wants to go back. So even if he was met up with by the old crew (or Dodge, at least) the very second he stepped out a free man and he was offered a job and such? He has so far refused to re-join. He’s trying his damndest to go straight, even if he doesn’t seem to be any good at it.
Special Skills and Abilities:
minor criminal skills ie - pick pocketing, lockpicking, car theft. and he knows how to handle himself very well in a fight. he’s learning to bartend.
Weaknesses:
Record - He was sent to jail for 2 years. It was supposed to be 5, but he got out early for good behavior. But everyone knows he was in jail before, and even if it was a while ago now, it still haunts him and the cops still come around and try to pin trouble on him even if he’s tried his hardest to be a straight shooter since then (for the most part).
Struggling - not only financially is Charlie unsound, but he did come back to a world where the gang he used to run with somehow managed to get themselves into high society and appear to be doing extremely well for themselves. All while he’s kinda been left with nothing(save for a small amount of money Dodge gave him, however it wasn’t enough to really sustain him, which was sort of a slap in the face, considering the financial situation there), and has a criminal record with the cops occasionally showing up just to remind him they think he’s scum. As far as ‘happily ever after’ goes, he didn’t get it. But it looks like everyone else did. It isn’t so much that he’s bitter, it’s more he’s keenly aware of it, and he doesn’t know how it makes him feel. Okay maybe he’s a little bitter.
Skill-Set - So, Charlie is good at pretty much one thing. Crime. He is trying very hard to fly straight at this point, but that doesn’t mean he’s cut out for it. Literally some of the only practical skills he’s picked up over the years are only applicable to illegal activities. It’s unhelpful at best with this whole ‘new life’ thing he’s going for.
Outsider - There was a reason Charlie ran with a gang. It’s because he really never quite fit into normal society, he wasn’t ever truly taught how to get along in it. He was on the fringes, in a gang made of other children, and that was how he was brought up. He still has no real clue how Dodge and the others managed to come out with proper society etiquette. Either way, he isn’t quite sure how he’s going to fit in now. He’s trying, but he doesn’t quite have the confidence yet to say he truly fits. He might never build up that much confidence, a part of him deep down still believing he was a throw away person and there had to be a reason for that, right?
Twitch - Due to his prison stint, he gets really twitchy if anyone comes up behind him, and in certain circumstances he’ll act before he thinks, or fully assesses a situation. He used to be more level headed, prison sort of wrecked that. It isn’t gone entirely, he doesn’t usually fly off into red rages unless there’s a really spectacularly good reason, but he’s twitchier than he ever was before. He reacts just a little faster with violence than he used to. Before, he was muscle, and often times used intimidation and such, but these days it’s less ‘threat’ and more ‘action’. He personally hates it, wishing he could dial it back again, but so far he’s having trouble with it.
Strengths:
Charming - He can be when he wants to be. He can be endearing, sweet, playful, flirtatious, whatever the situation calls for. He could very much be a player in his own right, but he never really tried for it. Living in Dodge and Jason’s shadows on that score left him believing that girls wouldn’t really be looking in his direction, they’d be too blinded by the other two. And history proved that theory more or less right, so far as he knows.
Contacts - Okay so he isn’t in the game anymore. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t know exactly who to go for for anything he might need, if he did decide to get back into it, or if someone else requires something less than legal.
