Marian finished up her shift, collecting her tips which were meager at best, but the weather wasn’t terrible which meant there had been customers overnight. Exhausted she rubbed at her eyes as she opened the door and tugged her coat closer around her. Not for the first time she wished she had made enough to justify the bus fare home so she wouldn’t have to walk, but that wasn’t an option. Even if her tips had been good she’d need the money to live on, not to splurge on things like bus fare.

It was spring and the first real, warm day of the new year. It had been about five months since she ran and Maddy was in Fontaine Park with a few scraps of chalk drawing a pretty mosaic, a little cup for change nearby.

She was in desperate need of money.

Lucas had called Sam to tell her that he had something for her, but she hadn't answered. He'd wound up just making a trek to her office at the police station but she wasn't at her desk so he left the envelope with the first confession and one of the photos from the torture. It was a later photo that he'd scoured with a close eye for anything that might give any indication of the killer, but Lucas had found nothing, and deemed it worthy of going to the police. They didn't need to know that he had others to go with it.

Dodge had spent most of what was left of his day alternating between pickpocketing strangers and thinking about Zach's suggestion. What rumors did he want spread about JD? What sort of pretend persona could he create? It was just like Maddy said only without the work, which in Dodge's book made it the better option.

Roy hadn't been at the garage when Maddy went by right after the curious talk with Marian. Roy not being at work (the other employees hadn't seen him) had Maddy's concern going up a notch. She checked the park, Marian's boarding house (in case they'd passed one another by accident), and anywhere else she could think of that Roy could sometimes be found. She wasn't finding him.

Marian had made a list of excuses in her head, most predominate being that Roy was back from the war, to go and see her brother. None of them made her walk to the old bank any easier, or the stairs up to his vault an easier climb. All her stress about it was for nothing, since his vault was abandoned, empty and untouched. She looked around a little, admiring his collections of small things before leaving, turning herself in the direction of the garage he worked at sometimes, hoping to find him there.

Eric was quite often a satisfied man, thanks to a few basic tenets in his life. They weren't overly complex things, mainly dedication to his profession and a commited sort of pragmatism; so when he could spend a day busy with his work? Ending the day usually saw him in a good mood, and today was no exception. He'd parked down at the end of the boardwalk at the start of sunset, grabbing a thermos that held more than one shot of whiskey in it. More than five, if he was being honest.

Dodge was feeling better about all things Maddy, but being cooped up though started to get to him and he found himself out despite the light. He was still in the pageboy hat, but he'd forgone the worn pants for one of his normal suit pants. He'd also cheated and found somewhere to clean himself up, which he needed. Despite his new role on the streets, which wasn't much of a role at all, but he still had ways to get information. Plus he was interested in what was going on in the city.

There were perks to sleeping in his office most nights. They seemed few and far between to the observer, but for Lucas, a cat nap on the couch in his office meant a multitude of things. He could sift through cases and reports in work by his co-workers, keeping his family name out of them, as well as swiping the better story by going through others notes. It didn't really win him friends, but those who cared, or realized what he did, just took their notes home with them.

"Ladies and gentlemen, fellow officers, representatives of the press," Jakob greeted from the podium he'd been ushered into by the sound of light applause, "I will keep my statements today brief, believe me when I say that I know how many other things need the time we are spending here today." He smiled curtly for the sea of cameras off in the center and down the front steps of the building, knowing his coworkers were out there in the sea of uniforms even if he couldn't spy any of them specifically.

"I've got it." Ivy said, trying to yank the IV holder, or whatever the hell it was called closer to herself, away from her would-be mother-in-law. In her head, they were just waiting for Quentin to wake up, and then they'd get married, and people could call it a shotgun wedding all the damn well wanted. But it would happen. And they'd figure things out. It was her plan, her very solid, non-negotiable plan.

It hadn't been very hard so far, which was surprising to Ramona. Creating these tiny falsehoods one after the other was actually almost easy with the right motivation, which she absolutely had. Everything with Quentin was bewildering, and all she needed to do in order to make a claim that she wasn't feeling well? Was to drop the manners and let it show.
